Just read on Cargoweb:

"
Swiss airline Swissair wants to take the place of KLM in a merger with British Airways (BA). These plans would frustrate merger discussions between KLM and BA.

Swissair is said to be conducting a study of the benefits of amalgamating with BA, according to British newspaper The Mail on Sunday. The conclusion apparently is that the Swiss are a 'stronger partner' for the British airline than the Dutch. A BA spokesman only let out that BA 'always talks with all airlines'.

This month KLM and BA decided to continue their negotiations which must result in a merger. It was said that important progress had been made, due to which a merger has become a great deal more probable.

When BA "ate" British Caledonian some 13 years ago, I had a vain hope that BA would benefit from BCAL's standard of service. I would hate to see SR's excellent service drop to BA's rather more mundane.

I think that SR has so many agreements with european partners and, more important, an agreement with AA, the most important for BA. So I defenitely think it will be BA-SR and not BA-KLM. I agree however that the SR's standard is much better then BA's ( except for the first class) and that SR has to pay attention! However I think that SR will compromise a lot to get this deal, because they feel the heat of Mr. van Wijk, KLM's chairman!! http://www.crewstart.com/ubb/images/icons/shocked.gif
