What are other pilots opinions on the virtues or otherwise of opting for lifestyle on perhaps a less "prestigious" A/C type vs flying the latest and greatest or biggest A/C you can get your hands on?
An old and well respected Captain I used to fly with summed it up very well I think after having just completed an endorsement on what was at the time a very new A/C (A300)in Toulouse.
When asked what he thought of this new fangled A/C,he said,"just another ****ing windscreen!"

I would've loved your old captain! He sounds like he must've been a lot of fun to work with!

How right he is just another windscreen and just another piece of tarmac.

When the weight of the paper equals the weight of the airplane, only then you can go flying.

And I have to agree with the old guy.
I bid AC type's for the schedule that comes with it.
Work versus leave, and the destinations.
But I have to say these choices don't affect me financially yet.
Once money influences that decision I probably go for the big flagship too.
(luckily it also has nice destinations).

I would say: it depends on what you want!
If flying is your life and flying the biggest, best and newest is what makes you happy, GO!
To me there's more to that though: destinations, schedules, colleagues (young, old), free time........
When you are young remember: you will most probably fly that new toy somewhere in the future!
