Alitalia, the Italian national carrier is holding talks with both Air France and Swissair with a view to forging an alliance after the collapse of its joint venture with Dutch airline, KLM.
Doesn't seem to me a good combination..?

Well, what we know is that we are probably getting an alliance with Swissair.Swissair got allready Volare Airlines and air europe which means 19 A 320, 5 B 767, 2 B 777.That would mean for us returning to be the only italian airlines to fly domestic.Air France is improving Lione airport, that would mean Malpensa will loose flights, instead Zurich airport is overcrowded and Malpensa will increase traffic.

Speculations about second chance for KLM-Alitalia
KLM and Alitalia are again cautiously seeking closer relations. In recent weeks top brass from Alitalia have repeatedly been in The Netherlands 'for informal talks'.
In a fortnight from now Alitalia CEO Domenico Cempella, the opposite number to KLM top man Leo van Wijk, will come to Amsterdam. The official reason for this is an unusual 'personal acquaintance' with the new Alitalia office, which became necessary again after the negotiations with KLM fell through.
According to Reuters the discussions between Alitalia and Air France have taken on a greater significance, but also those with Swissair and American Airlines.
Yesterday, chairman of the Board of Management of Alitalia, Fausto Ceretie (59), during the congress about strategic alliances held at Tilburg, remained above all mysteriously non-committal. About the possibility of new talks with KLM he said: "The Catholic Faith is forgiving, but only after one has confessed one's sins."

Probably the negotiations between KLM and Alitalia will go on, I doubt however if Alitalia will do this when mr. van Wijk is still in charge, because he insulted the italien goverment in an inter view. Anybody with a guess who will be the next president of KLM?
