Wheeeew,
I'm pleased to say my name didn't end up on any subpeona, a list of those names: http://www.the-mechanic.com/graphics/ual/subpoena/subpoena-p08.jpg
The vote went well in Indy on the 5th and the TRO has been lifted; who knows, maybe better days are on their way after all...
PS. In spite of the briefings you may or may not be getting, The-Mechanic (Dennis) has not yet been officially terminated.

His messages are in the Topic titled ”unions....Craft vs. Industrial, or hopefully this link will work and you can just…Click here. (http://www.crewstart.com/ubb/Forum15/HTML/000004.html)

As a UA flight attendant I would like to ask a question of one of our mechanics or someone familiar with their situation. Is their rancor solely due to contract negotiations going so ....slowly... or are they trying to unseat the IAM as well? How is this affrecting the negotiations? And what is their feelings on the merger? Our union AFA leads us top beleive that the IAM are in favor of it as evidenced by their Board of Director member voting in favor of the merger. Does this truly represent rank and files feelings or is he out to lunch? Thanks for any enlightenment!

Others may disagree with me, but as far as I'm concerned--the IAM has got to go!
They are definitely not working toward the best interests of their mechanics; they need them because all of the the labor groups the IAM represents depend on riding their coat tails to acquire greater increases in compensatory packages. Not to mention the fact that their relationship with UAL has become suspiciously cozy.
None of this is meant to imply that others don't put in an honest day's hard work--not by a long shot. But there is a difference between ramp agents, cabin cleaners and aircraft mechanics.
What you're seeing now is an industry wide discontent coming to a head. Aircraft mechanics have been sorely underpaid for decades; to make matters worse-their respective employers insist on being disrespectful, as though their contribution were of negligable value. Now, we have huge numbers of more experienced mechanics leaving the field for greater financial security and respect; which, incidentally, should be scaring the hell out of those of you who take off with the bird... I heard it put best, the other day:
"Would you rather have the best mechanics in the field working on the aircraft you fly in, the car you drive or your washing machine?" That's not a joke; that's really happening.
The push, then, is toward craft union representation that specifically addresses the education, skills and responsibilities that aircraft mechanics have. We are not only trying to play catch-up; we're trying to keep some of our best people in aviation!
http://www.crewstart.com/ubb/images/icons/mad.gif I won't pretend, for one moment, to be even mildly tolerant of how the IAM has set mechanics back... They're lying, sneaky S.O.B.'s and they disgust me. As long as I have a heart that beats--I'll speak honestly about their unethical representation of aircraft mechanics and support alternatives that attempt to professionalize the image and practices of A&P's.
