A court decision in Haarlem about age discrimination.
Apparently a 56 year old Mac co-pilot went to court to demand to be returned to the job after reaching this birthday. Mac claimed it is part of the CAO package deal. The court saw similarities with the soccer-referees decision (age 47) earlier this year and called it age discrimination.
Decision is pending due to another case on this matter started by 44 pilots in Haarlem, NL.
Looks like your pilot career flow in the Netherlands is about to be seriously effected.

In my company (BA) we are forced to retire at age 55. I don't agree with the policy, but on the other hand joined up knowing it was so. I can see that more junior folk would not wish to see the policy reversed and I understand their point of view.
Nevertheless I shall fight to extend my working career and retire when I wish to. It is age discrimination whichever way you look at it and it is wrong.

It could become an interesting fight within a pilots union between the older and younger guy's, since most of us are after short term satisfaction. Especially since the career of the once hired in the last 5 or 6 years has been much slower than anticipated already. I won't personally be effected too much, but can sense the frustrations building. Hope we can keep the union together in the 98- 99% membership region it has been.

clearly it is not the same everywhere,
SENATE TO RECONSIDER AGE-60 RULE:
Legislation that would extend the
mandatory retirement age for commercial airline pilots from age 60 to 65
is working its way through a Senate committee, and could be voted on as
early as today. U.S. Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-AK) introduced the bill,
which has been under review this week by the Senate Commerce, Science,
and Transportation Committee. Various industry groups have been working
for years to achieve a change in the rule.

IN THE USA,
The Senate Commerce Committee approved a bill last week to allow airline pilots to fly to age 63. That proposal and several others will now go to the full Senate for consideration. Currently, airline pilots face mandatory retirement at age 60, although a number of countries allow pilots to fly for pay until age 65...
