FLYING, THE NEXT BEST THING TO A BARIUM ENEMA:
A study presented by Canadian scientists at the 18th International Cabin Safety Symposium
last week in California found that the cumulative effect of exposure to cosmic radiation over a year's worth of flying at 30,000 to 40,000 feet is roughly equivalent to receiving a barium enema. Ahem.
According to the researchers, if you fly frequent high-altitude long-haul flights, you can expect your chances of developing terminal cancer to rise by a maximum of about 0.7 percent, when compared to the risk in the general population, Air Safety Week reported. But don't sweat it, there's a 25-percent chance you'll die of cancer, anyway...
