I am a 36 year old graduate of Purdue University with a BS in Aviation Flight Technology (airline option) but have not flown for several years due to circumstances involving job availability and conflicts with my wife's former career. I am now researching the posibility of once again pursueing a career in aviation but want to make sure what is available and what my best course of action might be.
While I am not current, I have obtained the following: comm/instr multiengine land, comm glider, Flight Engineer - Turbojet, and at one time had my CFI. I have 900 hrs total time with only 24 hrs multi (ouch). Additionally, I have roughly 160 hrs sim time with 90 of that in a 727-100 sim (30 hours in each seat) and 60 hours in a DC-8 sim. Nearly all of my time was accumulated by either receiving or giving instruction, much of which was tail-dragger time (fun but not exactly career promoting).
Any advice on what my marketability in todays job market might be, and the best course to pursue, would be greatly appreciated. While I enjoyed teaching, if my only entry level option is flight instructing again, the financial obligations of being the sole bread winner in the family will probably prohibit me from pursueing aviation again unless it were a salary position of at least a liveable size.
Thank you in advance for you assistance.
Sincerely,
Eas
