Hi:

I am a dentist who has left private practice because of herniated disks. I hit the lecture circuit and have found that the more I fly in the back of the plane, the more I want to sit up front. I have decided to pursue a life-long dream and become a pilot. I should finish my private in August and then will move on to CFI in hope of building enough hours to join a commuter airline. Because of my age (41), I don't think the majors are going to be right for me. I will always be fighting the seniority curve. However, I feel I will have a better chance with a commuter. My goal is Comair or ASA since I am from the Atlanta area and have flown Delta all my life.

I would like to see if any commuter pilot would be willing to correspond with me by e-mail or allow me to call and discuss career options and ask some general questions. While I would prefer speaking to a Comair or ASA pilot, I would welcome speaking with any pilot that is willing to give me career advice. Please e-mail me so I can either correspond by e-mail or phone. If you don't mind a phone call, leave me your phone number so I can call you on "my nickel." Any help will be most appriciated.

Thanks

Pat Little

Hi Pat,
Good move...will take some time and effort
though,CFI is not as easy as it looks.
It will teach you more about flying than anything else will..I'm a CFI myself.
Great timebuilder too,got 1100hrs in a year.
Don't worry too much about your age.I know quite a few "older" pilots with great 135
freight or corporate jobs.
Besides if you had to hire a pilot who would you take?
An 18 year old with a 1000hrs straight out of an aviation college or a 42 year old mature self-made man?If you check the ads on the internet lots of companies are looking for mature independent pilots and not fast time-builders.Good luck.
