Lufthansa to add jobs in 2003
Dateline: Tuesday October 01, 2002

Lufthansa said that "market conditions permitting," it plans to hire more than 3,000 new employees next year, including 1,800 flight attendants, 340 pilots and 410 airport staff in Frankfurt and Munich.

Additionally, LH has vacancies for "a total of 600 university graduates." It also intends to create new training positions. In 2003 a total of 644 apprenticeships will be available in the fields of maintenance, commerce and IT.

"We overcame the [9/11] crisis jointly with our staff. The solutions we reached with the employee representatives enabled us to avoid compulsory redundancies," said Chief Executive-Human Resources Stefan Lauer.

Yes, I've just been hired (although I have no experience in the airline industry) as a trainee flight attendant and I start the 9-week training period on 22nd October.

They are recruiting like crazy at the moment. I just hope that if there is a war between the US/UK and Iraq that this won't influence passanger numbers on LH and then we'll all be out of a job.

Lufthansa is expanding its winter 2002-03 capacity by 13% compared to last year with introduction of the winter timetable on Oct. 27. The increases will bring its total flight offerings "almost" up to the level of its winter 2000-01 schedule. Services from Munich to Cairo will resume and flights from Munich to Johannesburg, Shanghai and Amsterdam will increase. Services to additional European destinations from Munich also will be boosted. LH will increase its long-haul flights as services from Frankfurt to Abuja, Sanna and Dubai will climb. Also, from Frankfurt frequencies to Paris and Geneva will rise as will services to and from Barcelona, Brussels, Zurich, Duesseldorf and Berlin.
