As I'm sure a lot of you are aware, a young lady (28) very sadly died of a blood clot which had formed in her leg (DVT) during her 20 hr flt from Australia to the UK. They are calling it "Economy Class" syndrome now. Whilst I don't think ANY of us would dispute the fact that our "Y" cabins are about as tight as it gets (some more than others), I did take exception to something that was said on TV today.
A leading "TV" Doctor (who I did like, but is now on my shit list) was doling out advice about what to do to prevent DVT. He said that it was imperative that pax get up and walk around the cabin once in a while. No dispute there. But he went on to say that pax should get up for a walk even though it annoys the cabin crew who can't get their meal carts and duty free bits along the aisle. He incinuated that f/a's were part of the problem.
On another program (they've been doing this to DEATH over here today) one lady said that when the "stewardess" has finished her safety demo, she (as none of us are guys) should warn passengers about DVT and warn them not to drink alcohol, and to keep doing little excercises with their feet...blah....blah. WHAT???!!!! Don't we ALREADY try to discourage people from drinking??? I know that we've all stuck those window blinds down on long sectors and tried to get them off to sleep, but WHY does everything seem to be OUR fault??? Why are the travelling public so retisent to admit that THEY should be more aware of the effects of flying? God knows the information is out there.
Whilst I feel badly for the family of the young lady in question, I am fed up with people knocking us. We work hard and take major amounts of cr*p from people who don't UNDERSTAND the job. It's high time pax took responsability for THEMSELVES and stopped trying to blame everything on crew.

Your thoughts?????

Hi Everyone
In Canada the Ministry of Transport states that "passengers are required to wear their seat belt at all times when seated". Now try telling these passengers that they have to sit down and not walk up and down the isle. Passengers dont blame Transport Canada, they blame us for enforcing this rule. It gets me were tick off.

The press is acting as usual: they talk and write about things they don't know anyting about. They don't even bother to get informed. If the guy in question had been aware of what happens inside an aircraft, he sure would have spoken differently.
It is incredible the things they say eg. after an air disaster. Things they usually retract impudently after some days, as expert's point of view begins to spread.

Sometimes our employers do not help either by not commenting on these issues.
As we all know seemingly intelligent people become fools when they are a pax.
You could educate and warn them until you are blue... but do they listen - NO!
Great examples are... Cabin baggage, compliance with Crew P.A.'s, Dangerous goods etc etc.
Even though information is available at check in, on the ticket jackets etc.
We will always be the punching bag because it is convenient!
Is it that they are jealous because we are all gorgeous and glamorous!

It is just horrible... today I went to SSH out of BRU and a lot of pax were just standing up and running around... A 737 is not an wide body... http://www.crewstart.com/ubb/images/icons/frown.gif((So we were stuck up to 3 times in the middle of our service.

This announcement may be serious, but try to make a cabin keep seated ... not easy
