Hello everyone!

Here's the scoop. I applied online to Air Nova (division of Air Canada), and although they said they weren't hiring, I got a call from them to perform a language test on the phone (to make sure I was fluent in both French and English). This was a Friday afternoon. The lady told me that human resources would only contact those whose file was retained for an interview.

Right away, on the following Monday, another lady called me mentionning that they want to meet me in an interview. However, I live in Montreal and the interview is in Halifax. Now, they are paying the flight and everything.

What do you guys think my chances are? What should I do to make a good impression and get the job on the first shot? PS. this is my first interview for flight attendant in an airline.

All suggestions appreciated!

Go for it! Sounds like they are pursuing you! Just keep on doing what you're doing. They obviously think you're great. Just smile.

Let us know what happens!

Hello all!

Well, here's what happened with Air Nova:
They told me that the interview they were doing that day was step 2 of 4 (since I had passed the language test, 1st step). If I pass this interview (will know within 3 weeks), they will once again pay me a flight to headquarters in order to pass a second interview with the manager in human ressources. Should I pass this second interview, the only thing left will be the medical, which is no problem at all.

Thanks for your help, will keep on posting as things move on.

Hi Suthern.... Actually, your reply should have said, "You go guy".... hehe..

However, on the other hand: Bad news......
Got a letter today saying I was not selected to go in for a second interview... No reasons given. That really SUCKS.

Anyway, will just have to wait for Air Canada's open houses in January, and give it a shot with them.

Thanks for your help, however... I should buy a book or something.

Dear Pat, I know I'm a little late in responding but I hope what I say can be useful and hopeful.

I'm with my 2nd airline.(I'm in my 15th year) The first training I got kicked out of-personality conflict. you have no control over that. (airline was bought out in early 80's)My 2nd airline was a major, but floundering so I took a voluntary furlough in early 90's. interviewed for alaska air made final but was not selected thank God. next interviewed with AA and thought I *kicked butt* in the interview. wasn't selected there either. Next interviewed with United and didnt think I did so well but they hired me! This is my 10th year there and for the most part it's been a good company to work for (they all have their problems).

anyway the whole point is keep on trying!
When you go for the interview with AirCanada show them you're a *teamplayer* by paying attention and being polite to the other candidates. Be immaculate in your appearance from your shoes to your fingernails. Dont use any slang and be very clear in your speech.

Good luck to you. It's a great way of life.

Hi Pat:
Laura@ual you are wright,Air Canada do look for those quality. I work for Air Canada and they look for-a neat appearance, smile a lot. The second and third interview are group interviews and they look for-teamwork -interaction with the other candidates. Hope it helps. Good luck.
ps. Keep sending your application every 6months-dont wait until they have a hiring blitz.

You go GUY - sorry about that.

I agree with the person who said keep putting your resume in every six months. Shows you are really wanting the job.

I interviewed with three airlines before beginning training in January 1998. The first airline interview went real baaaaad. The interviewer had a bit of an attitude which, I guessed, forced me to develop one toward her. What started it is that she asked me to follow her to a room for the interview and nearly slammed the door in my face. Said she forgot about me being behind her.

The second airline interview was held in my hometown on a cattle call. I was not expecting the "stand up and tell us why you are dependable?" segment. Jeeeez, it was ugly.

The third airline interview, I thought, went very well. They sent me to the corporate headquarters and interviewed me for an hour! I was the last person to leave. I really, really thought I had an immediate offer coming.

The fourth airline interview - well, buddy! - I was ready for anything at that point. Slamming doors, "show and tell"and talkative interviewers. I was prepared with my answers and facial expressions down pat. It was the easiest interview of the four. No show and tell, no doors slammed - just a one-on-one with a talkative interviewer. I saw her about three weeks ago. She remembered me.

So, Pat, I guess the moral of this long boring story is to keep on trying if that is what you really want to do. A book would not hurt. There is a real campy book - like written for high schoolers - called "How to be a Flight Attendant." You can probably find it at your local library. Real basic information and it enforces what you already probably know about interviewing with the airlines.

Good luck and keep us posted.

A very good book is "Welcome aboard", that you can find on Amazon.com.
It gived very good advices for personal appearance, what interviewers look for and how to get prepared for interviews.
Good luck BOY, and let us know when it will happen!

Hi all!

Thank you so much for your kind responses and help. Yes, I have heard of "Welcome Aboard" and plan to purchase it. As far as interviews go, it has been quiet lately. There IS a new airline here in Canada called Canjet who already called me for a language test; but they are only hiring in January..... must wait till then. Air Canada is also hiring in January. Will have to wait and see. I will keep you posted.

Thanks again!

Pat
don't forget to have a look on the F/A and Wannabees forums on flightattendants.org.
Lots of news for USA/Canada F/A's, especially recruitment.
