SOBRECARGO,
Congratulations…I guess……depending on if you’re happy about being accepted for training. You don’t sound real enthused about working for AA…or is it just having to go through training again? http://www.crewstart.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

I have been with AA since 1991. Eastern Airlines before that, so I know what you mean about training.

If you’re already with a Major, why are you contemplating a change? Which airline do you work for now and why are you not happy there?

Personally, I’m very pleased with AA and I’m not going anywhere else unless AA shuts down. http://www.crewstart.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Here are a few tidbits……

Reserve:
We have a rotating reserve system…one month on reserve, then one month holding a line of flying. After 3 years of that reserve rotation, reserve is one month on, then three months holding a line of flying…reserve just three times a year. But depending on what base you have, you could be off reserve in less than a year. DFW is a very senior base…reserve is up to 12-14 years. LGA/EWR is less than a year.

Time off:
Our contract, right now, only allows us to be scheduled up to 75 hours per month, but we can fly 100 hrs or more if we choose to pick-up trips from other F/As. Of course, you can choose to drop trips, too. Or, just fly your bid trips. It will be your choice depending on how much money you want to make. Our lines of flying are scheduled with as little as 9 days working (Senior, SENIOR Mama high time trips), and up to 15-16 days working. I’m at a point where I can hold a line of flying working 14 days a month.

Pay:
You can expect to make about $16-17,000 in your first year if you only work 75 hours a month. Plus, $300-400 a month expense money. We are in the middle of negotiating our contract, so you can expect the salary for the first year of flying to be going up.

Domestic vs International:
There are separate bid sheets for Domestic and International flying. It’s a little strange, but flying to Hawaii is considered ‘International’ because it’s over water. And flying to Mexico and Canada is considered ‘domestic’ because it’s not over water…with the exception of maybe MIA to Mexico, flying over the Gulf (over water and considered International). Is that confusing enough? http://www.crewstart.com/ubb/images/icons/grin.gif

Hmmmm…can’t think of anything else off the top of my head. Is that the type of info you wanted?

THANK YOU WELCOME ABOARD,FOR THE INFO.I AM WITH CO. AND I AM HAPPY THERE.BUT I DONT LIKE COMMUTING, FROM FLL TO EWR. AND AA HAS THE MIA BASE. WHEN I APPLIED I WAS TOLD IT WAS A JUNIOR BASE. TURNS OUT IS NOT. AND THAT I WOULD STILL HAVE TO COMMUTE TO LGA OR ORD. SO YOU SEE MY DILEMA. BUT I HAVE A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO MAKE UP MY MIND . YOUR REPLY HAS BEEN EXTREMELY HELPFUL. TAKE CARE AND FLY SAFE.

Remember that all airlines have their good and bad points. It is the nature of the industry.

No one hates training as much as I do. Weeks and weeks of pure hell and b-s filled instructors who have not been on a real working flight in years. But, realize it will all be over soon.

S'BELL THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I TOTALLY AGREE ALL AIRLINES HAVE THEIR GOOD AND BAD. I WAS ON A LAYOVER WHEN I FOUND OUT THRU THE NEWS THAT I HAD LOST MY JOB.(PAN AM-1991).BUT I GUESS, IT IS JUST LIKE YOU SAID, NOTHING IS FOR SURE. (AT LEAST NOT IN THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY.)I GOT A COUPLE OF WEEKS YET, TRAINING STARTS JAN 8. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU AND FLY SAFE.

SOBRECARGO,
Just thought I’d check back and see if you have made your decision yet. Have you decided if you’re going to stay with CO or go to training with AA?
