Of course, it all depends on the airline. At UAL, you would definitely be on reserve, no matter how many languages you speak. Depending on the language, it is possible for you to be on language reserve, but you usually need more seniority. But, depending on the base, even if you were on domestic reserve you may still fly international trips. (And vice-versa.)

if you want to do intl, try private or charters.
here at lovely NWA no matter if you speak like 7 (like my girlfriend) you still get to go to fun places like ROCHESTER MINNESOTA!
this is on reserve.
when you get to hold a line, it's all based on seniority who gets those long flts to europe or asia

Actually, on reserve at NWA, you get anything they give you while you're on reserve.... my VERY FIRST trip was a 3-day Narita (Tokyo) and I've been back there twice.... i've done London (2x), Paris, Beijing, Shanghai (2x), and Amsterdam so many times I've lost count.... and I will mark my 1 year anniversary in April....
So don't be discouraged my cynical remarks by the MSP based gals.... I guess they just got the short end of the stick..... so to speak...... hehehehehehehe
But like Jenny said, you will get to know some of our "less-than-glamorous" layovers quite well..... I've become quite familiar with Lansing..... (now if THAT'S not glamor, I don't know what is!)
have fun and take care

Hi Southern
It all depends on the airline you choose to work for. Some airlines do not have more than 1 Foreign Language speakers on their planes. I work for Continental and we have as many as six speakers on a single flight. Some people may not like this but this is in our contract and this is what our ceo wants.
If you where to work for Continental and you get qualified in 4 Languages you would have to pick one of them as your primary base ex: Hebrew. But say you are also LQ in French, German and Spanish. It means you would fly in the Hebrew base but can also pick up trips that you choose to any of the LQ destinations we have.
You would be a Line holder at Continental and pick your schedule according to your seniority. If you fly in the Domestic base you would be a line holder in aprox. 1 year or less in Newark. It all depends on the base. As for Languages the Newark base is the one I referenced since it has the largest Flight Attendant base in our
airline.
I wish you the best of luck !
