i was just thinking about Virgin Atlantic and Singapore Airlines.
in 1999 Singapore Airlines bought 49% of Virgin Atlantic as you all know. but is there much co-operation between the airlines?
i know VS codeshares with Malaysian and used to do with ANSETT as well, but wasn't sure about VS and SQ.
i was thinking:
with Continental's rocky relationship with Virgin Atlantic do you think VS and United (SQ's Star and USA partner) may join forces?
with Ansett gone, what is Virgin Blue's (DJ) position in Australia, and will VS codeshare with Air New Zealand to Australasia?
Sir Richard Branson said in 2000 that within two years he saw VS in an alliance, yet is not in one. it may seem obvious but do you think VS will join Star?
if so hope to welcoe VS to the friendly skies?

i now know that at present VS has no plans to return to Chicago this year.
quite likely VS will join an alliance within the next few years. not sure about UA-VS.
DJ (Blue) are wanting to expand with a fleet of Boeing 737-700/800 or Airbus A320/A321 'planes to expand right across Australasia, Australia domestic and NZ internationally although i believe they can't as yet.
about Malaysian, no idea.

Sorry for the delay in replying guys.........

Have heard nothing about alliances..... Have heard that we might be getting a first class to bring us in line with our SQ friends.... which would give us 4 classes on board. I know that we now codeshare to SIN with SQ and I had heard that we were going to give SQ one of our frequencies to LAX in return for one of theirs to SIN. We'll see. The MAS agreement is signed for a few years yet......must be very careful not to step on any toes!

i hope that Virgin does join Star.it will be really benefitial for Virgin and the Star partners.
Sir Richard did say he saw VS in an alliance in a few years, though he strongly disagrees about them, but with SQ owning for 48% and th rocky relationship with Continental, joing UNITED and Star would be a good move, fsf.
delsey, yes i may have flown with you check toronto thing for details

For some reason or another, I just don't see VS joining an alliance. Who should it join? Definitely not Oneworld since BA/AA are in it. Star? Do they need another UK-based carrier there? It will be interesting to know VS's decision.

If not Star, I think SkyTeam would be an excellent option for VS!
Don't you?

would be an awful alliance - the purpose of an alliance is to generate feeder traffic - greeat if you want traffic from france, but not much else. The 1st class rumour is old - if it was to happen, it would have arrived on the new Airbus's along with the enhanced J product (more leg room apparently)

I cant see VS giving up its daily Lax route though, unless it has rights for 2 and only runs one ? would make sense for SQ though - RTW flight SIN-LHR-LAX-HKG-SIN
