Hi,

We at Air Canada are presently into contract negotiations with the Company. One of the major issue this year is that the Company want to hand-pick the In-Charge Flight Attendants instead of using Seniority.

They stated in a recent Bulletin that the In-Charges in all major airline but Air Canada are hand-picked by merit by the management. Presently, to become a Purser with Air Canada, you just have to apply when there is positions open ad attribution goes with pure seniority.

How does it work in your airline??? Does it goes by Seniority or Pursers are hand-selected by merit by the management??? Thank you very much.

OK, by Purser you mean In Flight Supervisor, Number 1 etc etc? OK.

Well at our airline you must apply for the job, be interviewed and subsequently be selected. I think it's the best way really as just because you are the most senior doesn't mean that you are the most suitable person to be in charge of a jumbo does it?

Yes I imagine that some people do get passed over, in fact one of my best friends was on a number of occasions because they told the comapny exactly how it was.

I realise that this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but I think that selection is the best way to choose your Senior FAs as the company can weed out those who might be unsuitable..........

Cheers!
