Hello Ladies & Gentleman:

GLOBAL Airlines after USAIR.

CONTINENTAL to buy KLM & cutting 200 F/A positions at CLE.

AMR to hook up with BA PLC.

VIRGIN to fight back with no money.

DELTA to fight back with SKY TEAM

UNITED Warning all its passengers instead of saying Thank You for your business.(Read www.aviationplanning.com) (http://www.aviationplanning.com)) {Hot Flash for August 06}. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

It would seem that we are starting the week as usual. StudWiz brought up a good point.

"The Battle for Britain"

Should we buy KLM just because its cheap?
AMR/BA will not be the WEAKEST link across the atlantic. CDG & FRA are nice but no match to the money to be made in the U.K.

All the Euro heavy weights have problems of their own with profits in a nose dive. images/icons/shocked.gif

Again too much coffee for me this morning.
Who is Global? images/icons/confused.gif

Is it Continental in disguise?
Is CAL really going to hourly FLT's to FLL starting NOV 12, 2001?
Is CAL converting CLE to an RJ base?
Any ideas?

It looks like CAL will support the AA / BA thing. After all HQS will do anything to have 10 or 12 LHR slots.

1.) We dont have the A/C.

2.) We cannot support that many flt's from our current HUB's while continuing service to LGW.

3.) We need a European Partner(Officially banking flts together and code-sharing traffic).

It looks like AMR would like to complicate things by having BA PLC buy KLM.

This would affect CAL dearly. images/icons/shocked.gif

Hi FLYMY767,
I couldn’t get your link to work. There’s a ) stuck in the url address. I think this link will bring up the actual Hot Flash for August 06 page…Click here. (http://www.aviationplanning.com/asrc1.htm#Monday%20Morning,%20August%206,%202001)

Hmmmm…Interesting how that article makes the Air Rage leaflet being distributed by UAL sound like a ‘bad’ thing. Go figure.

Ciao!

G’morning Ladies and germs…just flew in from Newark…. and brother are these arms sore…..bada….boom!”

Naturally, I Immediately punched up the CO F/A INDUSTRY ANALYSIS PAGE (aka: Those Rumors). And what did I find? (Don Pardo…tell ‘em what they’ve won!!!) Our resident analytical Chanteuse (aka FlyMy767) has once again tweaked our fancy (I last had my fancy tweaked in Pointe aux Trembles-’81) with a veritable plethora of plane possibilities…the mind boggles (or at least that part of it which remains un-boggled after another full Transcon on a distinctly non-Transcon a/c!) Just looking at La FlyMy’s list of tantalizing acquisition hypotheses set the old mind to thinkin’—“hey how much revenue do we make, flying across the pond, compared to those carriers with perhaps less intrepid and inspired leadership? (That’s o.k. Gordon, I’ve given you my employee number on your message machine…I don’t need the Explorer, cash will do just fine!) So, I went to the DOT Website and, after a navigational exercise second only to Lindbergh’s, I found the page which lists the financial totals from the FORM 41 (Air Carrier Net Income Before Special Items) reports filed quarterly by the airlines. Various accounting niceties and loopholes qualify these results, but the bottom line is that CAL kicks some significant “golden” tail in the Atlantic Passenger Service. These numbers surprised the Hell out of me: These are for the Second quarter of Fiscal 01, and were reported out in early July. Remembering the loopholes, here we go with that qtr’s results.

AA MADE $5.28 Million
UA MADE about the same ($5,250,000)
DL LOST 8 Million
US LOST 15 Million
NW LOST 22 Million
TW I’m not going to mention the dead…because it makes me want to wish hateful and evil things for Carl Ichan, and that’s not the WizWay.

And Then!!!!! Drum roll please, professor!)

CO MADE 31 million!! (Is that like 150+% more than our nearest competitor with all the silver aerie planes or what?)

If you doubt my research (how could you…my friends….) go to the website and do the math yourself…they even have a direct link to the DOT Chief Librarian’s Office so you can ask for help or clarification. Also, I ran these numbers and their “qualifications” by the DOT Media office and they were extremely helpful. They said basically “Yeah! Those are “good” numbers you must be a happy employee!
In regard to our discussions two weeks ago, I’d also like to point out the “Latin America” numbers. This is really tricky, for small reasons like the DOT considers “Latin America” everything South of Nogales and North of Antarctica! With that having been said, it looks like we’re the big winner here, also (how about way in front). It’s simple. Of the four flag carriers which really count in the market (I’ve left out USAir and Alaska) two made money and two lost money. AA and UA both LOST about a Million and a half and a Million and three-quarters respectively. DL made a whopping $116 grand and CO made 8.2 Million. Remember the qualifiers…and “Special Items” are unique (especially in DL’s case…lots of write down goodies and non-recurring costs). But nonetheless, my fellow wage slaves, that’s the Picture.
Now, for the RIQ (Really Important Question) What the hell was in La Fly My’s coffee and where can we get some?
Cio my friends.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen:

Wizzie please dont mention the word coffee.
If you dont know. I am kind of BLOND if you know what I mean. The sound of the word makes me want to have some. Even this late at night. Anyway, I always enjoy your posts. You have braun and brains and a sense of humor.

Not many men I know make me take out a dictionary to look up the vocabulary you use.
I learn so much from you. English is not my first language. I grew up on a Central American farm milking cows. Silly me, I still remember the day I tried to milk a bull and he kicked me in the head. I've never been the same. Anyway, since we have all that money why are we delaying new start up service's. Please dont tell me its the economy. Now is the time to jump ahead of the competition and take our CROWN JEWELS and use them routes and all. You know when the enemy is weak.(The Art of War by Kung FU or SHOE, whatever)

In October we where going to take the 738 on the EWR/PTY/GYE and switch the GYE tag for CLO (Cali, Colombia). GYE would then become a 757 Nonstop from EWR with a TAG to UIO (EWR/GYE/UIO)and BOG would then become a layover instead of continuing to UIO. Not to mention EZE which I now think we still have like 30 days left to appeal. I may be wrong.
Last I heard they are NIX'ing it all.

Besides, all this talk about a European HUB sort of makes you think the AA/BA deal went through. We have not even opened up FLL or LAX and they talk about banks of flights at AMS and maybe opening up DUS !! Hoonnney Paaahhhleezze!!! (all that jet lag).

I think that we should go after VIRGIN again. But this time make them see that they not only will survive but grow if they are under our umbrella. This would give us LHR and the presence and weight we need to concur the U.K market.

AMS would give us the user friendly transfer HUB we need and the power of 3 daily banks of flights.

ALASKA would give us a great presence on the West Coast and great employees to work with with similar A/C.

FLL would make us so much money. There is more wealth in FLL than MIA. More Business Travel (Domestic )and the need for more International expansion. People in South Florida are just tired of flying those old 727 internationally. Not to mention an airline that likes being on time.

Sharing insurance costs on A/C, TKT counters and similar office and related space can only help. Its time for WINGS to spread its wings if you know what I mean.

Besitos

Are you just making this up? Where, or from whom did you hear it? Where are the facts?

There are federal regulations against an American carrier merging with, buying, or being bought by a foreign carrier.

I realise these are all rumours, but let us be realistic. images/icons/grin.gif

Hi Galley Hag!

Thanks for joining in on our little sidebar.

In defense of La FlyMy (who needs no defending, but it's that Sir Walter Raleigh thing) , I think we've all sort of gotten used to using this little corner of our CO world to futz around with "What If" scenarios...because, God knows, If I'd told anyone 20 years ago what our business would be like in 2001,...well, get the men in the White Coats with the straightjackets! TWA-Gone! PAA-(sniff) Gone! Eastern...National..gone..United Freakin' Airlines flying further West than Maui? With Pursers who say "Youse guys wanna nother cocktail before we hit Hong Kong?" (ok...only in the beginning before they decided maybe that wasn't good p.r) Piedmont, Allegheny and PSA all part of a Company called US Air..started by a guy who tried to set UA's Autopilot to the self distruct mode and damn near got away with it again!! People throwing full Coca Cola cans at our colleagues....ad nauseum. We're just havin' some fun here....but, oddly enough...in our biz, tomorrow's fantasy CAN BE tomorrow's reality....

Again, welcome to our crazy corner (I sorta think even our moderator gets a chuckle from time to time....I'm guessin'..)

all the best.

Wiz.

Just read UA is starting non stop service Chicago-New Delhi and eliminating its LHR-DEL-HKG route. I've heard many times CO wants to start DEL and I heard it was going to be LGW-DEL-HKG, thus utilizing our 777's more effectively. Anyone know if UA turned a profit on their LHR-DEL-HKG deal? Think CO might take over? That'd be like a 6 day trip from hell, I dare say. images/icons/wink.gif

Hi Friends:

I took my physical Monday..and it looks like all these years of decadent living have caught up with me..I'm going on a MED LOA because the quacks tell me I've got to have a heart bypass operation! Hooda thunk it! I feel fine.

So I want to stand here at the forward door and say "g'bye..bye now..bye bye, g'bye.."
to all of you, my well-informed pen pals. Hopefully this hiatus won't last more than a couple of months. It's going to be a "triple"...so, if baseball's any benchmark...that's good. They do them all the time I'm told. I can't put into words the enjoyment I get when I crank up our little corner here at Rumor Central. Especially when those rumors come true.

Y'all are the greatest! And three cheers to our intrepid MODERATOR...who has got to think there's more than a few screws loose in our gang.

So to all "My peeps" in SLC (hope you get MIA) IAH//EWR/the LHR Chrisses and, well, everyone else: Happy Landings, keep the shiny side up, remain comfortably seated and all that stuff...And now, dammit, for old times' sake-- "Crosscheck and prepare for departure...Shit Cindy, my little SAN beach muffin, arm that door!..

I Hope to see you on another flight real soon!

Love to all
