CAL started calling back employees from Furlough in all departments.
As per F/A's they have called back all those F/A's hired from 07/99 - 11/00.
Thats a good sign that things are picking up images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif

I think this puts the Furloughed F/A's at around 800 sharp. 1/2 of 11/00 - 07/01.

HI, FlyMy,
Does this I'll get my line back in NTA? (Again, it's all about ME!!) We have like 350 reserves this month.(a guess). What will they possibly do with all of us?? images/icons/confused.gif images/icons/confused.gif

Nope. Even if we go back to daily on all intercontinental routes you still have all the LAX commuters to deal with in regards to your line.
Now if Usair goes into chapter 11 like I mentioned in the post prior to this (If you Voted for Bush) you can see what the new rumors look like.
We might just be flying out of a LGA base? Who Knows?

Hold on a sec...
CO initially estimated furloughing 1,874 flight attendants, with the most senior having a 7-1-99 hire date. After over 1,000 CO-workers opted for the COLA Company Offered Leave of Absense (clever, huh? Sounds like a Cost-Of-Living Allowance!), they reduced the furlough to about 800 F/As, with a 11-20-00 hire date cut-off.
This effectively eliminates TWO YEARS of seniority! images/icons/shocked.gif
They had anticipated a slow down after summer, judging from the leaves they offered in September. Couldn't they have just furloughed people for 60 days, until demand picked up around Thanksgiving? NW was offering one- and five-month leaves to its employees.
Now all that remains to be seen is where those LAX and CLE folks end up. images/icons/confused.gif
If the airline stocks continue their tumble (and if we have any $$$ left) perhaps we could acquire America West (ala AA+TWA) and establish a presence on the West Coast. The DNU says we STILL have $1bil in the bank, with the infusion of government money.
Just curious ... images/icons/rolleyes.gif how did so many employees obtain a month of leave in October when the deadline for requests was six days prior to the incident?

Hi HNL you are correct and my wording was intended to encourage members on the crew startboard since the other majors start their f/a furloughes this month effective Nov 1. just in time for the Holidays. Sad
to say.
UAL 1997 and higher -- almost 6000 plus F/A's
DAL 1998 and higher -- almost 3000 plus f/A's
They are hoping that 3500 former PAA f/a's retire from Delta. These excellent f/a's where aquired when DAL bought ex- PAN AM routes over 10 years ago.
AMR no real numbers yet but they killed TWA's entire operation at JFK. Which is a shame since the port authority of NYC still does not know what to do with Terminal 5. A historic City Land Mark with its own FIS.
Due to the current situation it is to bad we cannot just walk in their and Launch International operations to Puerto Rico, Israel and the Dominican Republic from that beautiful terminal.
I hope the port does not destroy it.

AA quickly furloughed all of the F/As that were still on probation…about 1,000.
As far as I know, AA is now working the numbers on how many F/As plan to retire. Could be quite a few with the new contract and retirement package.
AA also put out a survey to find out how many F/As would take leaves. Any F/A willing to take a leave would continue to receive insurance benefits, accrue seniority, and keep their travel benefits.
Once all of the numbers are in concerning retirements and leaves we’ll find out if and how many more will be furloughed.
AA will close TWA’s JFK base effective Nov 1. AA had already planned on closing that base in Dec. They moved their plans up a month.

Thank You welcome Aboard for the information.
Please let us know when some numbers are out. I would guess that they might start at hire dates around 1998.

FLYMY767,
Here are some more numbers involving furloughs that you may be interested in…US Airways.
From the US Airways F/A union (AFA) website page concerning furloughs per base:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
”Domicile and System Wide Reduction Numbers
Breakdown of the new furlough numbers. These numbers only reflect where the 2,800 most junior F/A's are based. These numbers are not estimates. However, they will be offset by any type of LOA's negotiated.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On that page you’ll find a table//chart. It’s sometimes difficult and time consuming to try to duplicate a readable table here so I’ll provide the link.
US Airways F/A planned furloughs…Click here (http://afausairways.org/Furlough/Reduction.htm)
You’ll see that out of a total of 11,279 F/As US Airways plans to furlough 2,800 F/As by Jan 1. Remember though that the union states that the 2,800 number “will be offset by any type of LOA's negotiated.”
Hope this info helps.
Nothing new to report about furloughs from our AA F/A ranks.

hey just some good ole CAL news.
Gate agents are getting alot of their jobs back due to extra people needing for hand wanding and bag checks at gate.
Bid packets for Flight attendants (and I would assume this would effect pilots too) will be a few days late this month because they are having to add lines. I heard this from inflight supervisor on employee bus in IAH.
Also in EWR inflight this morning they had a line chart showing dips and climbs in passenger loads from Sept&Oct 2000 compared to Sept&Oct 2001. Obviously after Sept 11 there is a sharp drop, but this week(Oct 7th) has the EXACT same loads as As Oct 7th week last year.
Also this past week I flew alot Of EWR - MIA and TPA And IAH - IAD and IAH - MSY turns and ALL FLIGHTS WERE SOLD OUT IF NOT OVERBOOKED. We had one light load and that was only because of a 4 hour weather delay.
So I see good things in the works.
I love my job ! And yes I am sitting reserve in Newark and I still LOVE MY JOB!

OK…the latest AA furlough numbers have been released. I posted the numbers on the AA Forum also.
From the APFA union:
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Company estimates a system wide surplus of 3,306 flight attendants, effective November 1. The specific overages by base are as follows:
International:
BOS-I...20
DCA-I….9
IDF…..248
LAX-I…..40
JFK…..173
IMA…..201
IOR…..340
RDU-I…12
SEA……13
SFO-I…135
Domestic:
BOS...119
DCA…103
DFW…431
LAX….406
LGA…294
MIA….417
ORD…227
SFO….118
The Company will now proffer 6-month overage leaves and will offer partnership flying. These leaves will run from November 1,2001 through April 30, 2002.
Should an overage still exist at a particular base after the processing of leaves, partnership-flying requests will be awarded. If a surplus still exists after awarding overage leaves and partnership flying, any additional furloughs would occur in strict system seniority order regardless of base, and would be effective November 1.

It looks like United will be furloughing FAs up to around March, 1997. Senior leaves have been counted (not as many as hoped), but they're still waiting for the junior leaves by Oct. 15th. I'm sorry, I do not have numbers. This is all based on the discussions I have with my neighbors who are United FAs. The most junior class that will not be affected at all is sometime in Feb 1997.

At this time, NWA has only had to furlough around 300 FAs system-wide. This is supposedly all we're going to lose.
Month-long leaves have gone down to less than a year seniority.
NWA must be doing something right...we've only lost around 300. Of course, generally, NWA FAs jump at the chance for a leave if they can afford it.

Thanks for the information. I know that NWA had been shrinking its loss's by reducing staff way before Sep 11. In a way it is good because it is not as shocking as the UAL situation. 6000 plus F/A's for example.

So all my neighbors at 3 1/2 years seniority with UA are fine. Furloughs went to somewhere in 1999 seniority.

The most recent numbers concerning AA F/A furloughs have been announced......
2686 F/As were awarded leaves. That number, plus the lines of partnership flying awarded, brings the number of F/As that will be furloughed to 401. 401…go figure.
The most junior 200 will be furloughed November 1, 2001. The remaining 201 are scheduled to be furloughed December 2, 2001.

Looks like there are going to be no flight attendant furloughs at Delta. We had to keep 400 people from taking voluntary leaves next month. Of the 13,000 in headcount reductions, 11,000 signed up for voluntary leaves and voluntary retirements. Of the furloughed 2,000, 300 will be non contract employees from various departments around the company. The 1,700 balance are pilots.
Many Pan Am'ers could not afford to take the early retirment option becasue they did not have the years of service at Delta to get a comfortable Delta part of the pension. Apparantly, what was left of the Pan Am penisons did not amount to much. (I cannot verify the pension information, a senior flight attendant told me this. If anyone has some insight, chime in. But, the furlough numbers are solid.)
