Hi All,
Has anyone heard of a serious assault on BA Cabin Crew (the flight crew apparently chose not to get involved). I heard someone got 50 stitches in the head and another was stabbed in the stomach... what a crazy world we live in images/icons/frown.gif

I heard about this in my last briefing. I was told that a group of locals decended on the Truck and started fighting with broken bottles.
I really think we should all be officially informed of incidents like this, rather than rely on rumour control.
Hope our colleagues are on the mend...

I agree secondbreak, this job is getting more hazardous by the day. Assaults, date rape drugs and air rage, etc.... I wish BA would make full briefings available to crew.

Speedbird 1, why do you think the flight crew should get involved in other peoples fights? Do you need them around you at home in case you get into trouble in your local?
Anyhow, this incident was deliberately set up by the local yakusa (mafia) to discredit the Truck and put him out of business. Expect more people getting a beating in the near future.

Sadly, call me old fashioned but I expect some camaraderie amongst crew regardless of rank or affiliation. Far too often incidents take place away from base where fellow crewmembers chose to ignore those incidents following the motto “not my isle, chief”.
I strongly feel we should count on each other’s support, not necessarily physical support.
I am sure the crew involved in this incident would have appreciated any sort of intervention by others even by simply alerting the local police and paramedics.
I believe one of the crewmembers’ injuries were so bad that he is lucky to be alive and I am sure under the circumstances even you would have tried to assist in someway. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Don't know about that. Dodgy Bloke suonds just that to me. I wouldn't rely on him/her to piss on me if I was on fire. After all I wouldn't rely on him to do it if I was at home now would I? The phrase "Not my aisle" does seem somehow appropriate here doesn't it? Look forward to working with you one day my friend images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Have we lost the thread here folks? Let's concentrate on the incident at the Truck, and our injured colleagues.
How can we stay safe...
Should BA provide more up to date briefings for outstations...
etc...

Thank you AirBag. I agree with icenlemon, however before we can expect any sort of support from BA we need to go back to our roots and the team building seminars we have all attended… PPF, CRM etc…. The main ethos of being part of a crew is the camaraderie through thick and thin.
I feel BA should adopt an efficient and confidential briefing system – where crew’s are fully briefed of incidents through the check-in PC’s not just through the AVMED annual refresher… What do you all think ?

I think you misunderstand me here. Of course your mates or colleagues should help out if you are in any form of trouble but your comment
quote:
the flight crew apparently chose not to get involved

is the bone of contention, where were your "cabin crew" to help. If a group of you are out having a beer, then how come you can discriminate? Surely you meant "some of my colleagues chose not to get involved".
You might also like to know that Virgin have an internal memo that if any of their pilots are injured and unable to operate home due to "fracas" in places downroute, they will be subject to dismissal. This was brought about by the sheer number of incidents in the Truck, believe it or not.
Now, what would you prefer? Operating home one man down as he has a black eye, or a cancelled service because the pilot has?
Always willing to lend a hand, but I don't get involved in other peoples fights, whether I'm "flight crew" or not, sorry.

ultimately it is the crew members involved responsability to be or not to be at the wrong piace at the wrong time....
no amount of pre warning by BA would avoid the problem in question...
at briefings we are very often warned of potential problem zones/cities/countries.....and the general attitude of some crew members is to utterly disdregard the warnings and enjoy themselves regardless of the warning....

The man-in-the-middle of it all frequents this place, as well as the truck.
Maybe he'll reveal (almost) all...

We both know the 'man-in-the-middle', but he was, by all accounts, not the cause of the trouble, but more a victim of half a dozen or so Sri Lankese gentlemen...
There is now a sign up outside that infamous articulated lorry banning customers who are from a certain island off the coast of India. No, not the U.K. !

Are you talking about The Trailer in NRT? Many of my crew members go there on a regular basis and thankfully we have not yet had to fly back to Canada one crew member short. I have heard alot of stories about how wild it can get in there sometimes. Hope your crew member is getting better. We had one crewmember get seriously injured in a swarm mugging in Paris on the bridge right by the Eiffel Tower in broad daylight and we had some pilots get mugged and beaten steps outside their hotel lobby in Calgary. We are at risk, it seems, no matter where we go. Safe flying and layovers to all!
