Well the actual figure is 5200 as a consequence of the terrorist attacks. 1800 were already planned. In realtion to our community 2500 are to go in cabin services, which is about 50% of the announced job cuts. There is a statement from the union and management on www.bassa.co.uk (http://www.bassa.co.uk) .
This is just the first wave of cuts I fear.

Just rechecked the facts 2300 to go in cabin services. My conern is that the company will use the recent terrorist events as an excuse to push through umpopular meaures such as the further saving desired in cabin services. I would certainly consider a temporary pay cut to preserve jobs and help the company through inevitably dire times ahead. However if such a deal was made there would have to be a clearly defined point at which pre-crisis salaries and conditions would return. Don't trust anything our Chief says, even in the wake of such a tragedy. Just ask any former Ansett employee.

I just heard on the ITN news that BA is to cut 7000 jobs. They didn't say how the split would be done in relation to ground based and flying crew.
They say we've grounded 20 aircraft aswell.
I must say this is something that I for one never thought I'd see, BA making people redundant but drastic times need drastic measures.
I wonder which routes we will suspend. I'd reckon that flying out of LGW will be slashed. I don't know about anyone else but I haven't had a decent Club or First load for ages, even on IAH.
