My dear airline colleagues

I am making this general request in hopes that you will come to the aid of your Air Canada Flight Attendant colleagues.

As we all know, the world, and especially the aviation world, has changed post September 11. We are all trying to return to a normal semblance of life, as we had it before, but unfortunately, there are those that seek to profit from tragedy.

Our management has made changes in our working conditions to reflect the "status quo". As an example, our Crewing factor has changed. We are now flying with only 5 Flight Attendants on a B767 that seats about 200 people. With full service, to boot.

Management is constantly telling us that "The crewing-to-load standards are comparable to other major carriers". We would like to prove them otherwise.

Also, our Personal and Partner Pass Travel privileges, are changing as well. Management's statement is "The (Air Canada) Personal and Partner Pass Travel Privileges are among the most liberal in the aviation industry".

Once again, we would like to prove them otherwise.

So, I would like to call upon your help. If you could please provide me with official documentation answering the following questions, we would be forever grateful. Any input would be appreciated.

Crew Complement:

1. What is your crew complement policy, and can you send me a crew complement chart?
2. Is crewing to load part of your contract?
3. Are you compensated when you operate short crewed?

Passes:

1. What service charges are there on your passes?
2. Can your partner pass buddies travel unaccompanied?
3. Does your company charge you an administration fee if you dispute a pass charge?

You can email the information (and rest assured that your anonymity is guaranteed) to Jetwaiter@hotmail.com.

I thank you in advance for your assistance, your cooperation and your support.

I think our minimum compliment on a B767 is 7, how on earth can 5 cope ???

We don't cope and the pax really suffer. The pax in the front rows sit with their trays for so long that they are growing mold by the time you get back to pick it up. Just another way the suits at Air Canada (who have never flown a day in their lives) are trying to cut costs and make us more like an American airline. images/icons/mad.gif images/icons/frown.gif images/icons/confused.gif

Hi Jetwaiter....thought I'd clear a few things up for you....
Other posts on this thread were a little surprised at the crewing levels on our 767s - about 10 months back an AC pal of mine was doing a YYZ-BGI turn (vile I know) & I was operating our 744 back at the same time. We had decided that I would go over to the AC aircraft to say hi as the AC flt left earlier & I was at the airport with time to spare....well pax came out early & I got stuck on board & ended up boarding pax with you guys on the 767-200 which I realised was more or less the same config as our European 757s which we operate with 5-6 crew business class load dependent (flexi cabin). Had a few funny comments from pax one asking if this was the Star World alliance!!!
On the other hand our 767s are -300s.....on european routes they are in a max config of 247 with business class going all the way to doors 3 (100 & something pax!!) & 8/9/10 crew, the longhaul aircraft have a fixed config of 8F 36J 134M with 9 crew (2in F 2in J & 4 in M & 1 in charge who is supposed to work in J during meals....)
Our other aircraft at LGW.....
744 14F 55J 340M Crew 3F 4J 7M + 1 i/c = 15
744 14F 75J 277M same as above except 1more in J = 1less in M
777 14F 56J 194M Crew 3F 4J 4M + 1i/c = 12
777LR 13F 54J 187M same as above

737-400 max147 minimum 5 crew club load dependent
6 on domestics
737-300 max126 minimum 4 crew club load dependent
737-500 max110 minimum 4 crew club load dependent
On the 737s high club loads + hotmeals served on domestic flights (single class service) generate extra crew.....those guys do a hot breakfast LGW-MAN on a -400....40 min sector!!!! OK with 6 crew, but still!!

Hope this helps....

Oh....& dont get me onto the subject of passes(we call them concessions)!!!!
LHR-YYZ-LHR £88
LHR-YVR-LHR £95
Domestics in UK £33
& Canada is cheap for us as the taxes arent as high as in the US, so if Im off to YYZ for a naughty weekend I always go on a friends buddy passes...
