I was just wondering what the average is for 24hr at the moment.
In March I only have one trip (a US nightstop) and the rest is taken up with MBT and 24hr.
I have flown with people who seem to have been averaging a weeks owrth of 24hr per month.
Is the same thing happening on Eurofleet aswell?

Hey KT
24hr is a kind of standby we do on longhaul where they have to give us 24hours notice of a duty. We also do 90 minute 4.5hr and 12 hour too.
MBT stands for minuimum base turnaround. It's like our days off on longhaul (but we are too grand to call them days off) images/icons/tongue.gif

thanks Airbag! images/icons/smile.gif someone told me (can't remember who!) that at BA you were only on Stand-by for 13 days a year?

Hmmm, our standby blocks at the moment are about 10ish days long and we can expect to do 1-2 blocks per year.
If you go sick (as I did to get all this 24hr) then they wipe your whole published roster and it all goes out the window and you have to pick up what is left over.
I don't know how many standbys Eurofleet do per year, perhaps thats the number you were told.

Hey there Air Bag,
On EuroFleet it is totally different. We can get standby's rostered at any time, also we can be given them on our available days or from Ring-in Duties.
The difference being that on our standby's we have to sit in the Compass Centre for 6 hours whilst we wait to see if we are called.
If we get called out on a trip we will then be paid our allowances from when we started the standby right through to the end of the trip. However if we dont get called we dont get paid anything more than our basic salary (which we would be paid sat there or not)...
So if you decide to get something to eat and drink whilst there, added to the cost of fuel to and from work - it can sometimes cost us as EF crew to come into work!!!!!
Saying that though, at the moment, we are all rushed off our feet due to shortage of crew and are almost always being used for something or other.
With regards to MBT - ours are based on the length of our duty day. The minimum being 12 1/2 hours turnaround at base, rising to something like 18 hours on request after doing a longer day - 12 1/2 hours duty I think (or something similar to that......)
And often out trips are rostered to us with minimum or close to minimum rest between them.
Hope that helps answer your query, and let me know if you have any more.

Hmm yes, I remember only too well that secret camera they had in the canteen in Compass so that when you are on standby, they'll be watching you until you've just paid for your meal then call you for a charity run to BRU or CDG.
I was thinking back to how many standbys I did on Eurofleet. I must have averaged out at about 10 perhaps a few more a year. I didn't get one every month so I thought 10 sounded about right.
You can't do consecutive standbys now can you? When I was on shorthaul we could only do one standby after another if we were late or sick or something.

Cor, I wish I only got S'by once or twice a year. At VS we can have S'by every month and more than just one block!!!!! Afriend of mines roster was (last month) MCO, S'by1(4 days), MCO, S'by 1 (3 days), JFK. What a pile of pants!
We used to do MCO on the High Density 744 (Economy A zone to E zone) HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE HELL. Every standby you had as a Junior was a callout to MCO because people hated them so much. Now if you have standby 3 you are most likely to get a Lagos because people hate them now.
We have 3 periods of standby 1,2 & 3. They each refer to a different time box (ie) 0600-1500 1200-2000 and 1500-2345 or something like that. And you can be caled at any time during that standby to go on a trip and must be at report witihin 2 hours.
As we currently don't have a scheduling agreement (CC89 working it out at the moment) they can pretty much do as they please, but hopefully that will change soon and we can sort all this standby mess out.

No no. No kidding.
You try sitting on standby for hours waiting and waiting and getting hungrier and hungrier 'til you can't stand waiting any more.
Then go into the canteen.
As soon as you get your food and pay for it there is a small camera that looks at the tills and the cutlery and when scheduling see you gettin gyour knife and fork, that's when they call you
