Hello everyone,
I will be going into training with United the second week of May. It seems like the threat of this new strike, the merger, etc. equals quite a significant amount of turmoil at United in the coming months. Do you think I would be laid off or furloughed soon after training or even DURING training??? I am currently a flight attendant with another airline and I'm very worried at this possibility! Thanks for your advice----good luck everyone!!!!!

The current word from economists both affiliated with UAL and AFA and independant analyses show that furlough is not very likely. If the deal goes throgh, United will continue to grow.

But that is, of course, no guarantee.

Thanks a lot, Flyboy---I guess you're right: just because United may merge with USAirways, that doesn't mean that it won't continue to grow or need new employees! I do appreciate your insight and anyone else's...thanks again! images/icons/smile.gif I am almost positive I am going to go through with it....I don't want to regret it later on if I didn't!

Jetboy, I'm not going to lie. If this merger goes through, there are going to be some growing pains, to say the least. There's going to be a whole new contract, and probably some new procedures, that we'll all have to get used to. Not to mention the fact that there will be more than a few flight attendants who will be bitter about the USA f/a's coming in with full seniority.

United has some interesting times ahead. But it's still a great airline with a lot to offer. I just don't want to come over thinking that you're easy street now that you're at United. (I know a lot of people in my training had that attitude, and they've learned otherwise.)
