Hi guys---not much action on this board lately...what's the matter, you're all busy or something? images/icons/smile.gif
Hey, how long does it take to at least hold bases like LAX, SFO, LAS, DEN, and MIA? I am sure I will have to go to ORD or DCA my first 6 months at least, but I want to eventually end up in a warm weather place.....I am sure it takes 15 years to hold a line at these senior bases, but do any of you know how long it takes to at least transfer in on reserve to these bases??? Thanks for the info in advance----have a GREAT rest of the week, safe flying!!!

Out of the ones you mentioned, SFO has gone very junior within the past year and a half. Your best bet would be there. But always keep in mind how drastically and unpredictable things change. Three years ago no one woulda EVER predicted how easy SFO would be to get in to. It used to be damn near as senior as SEA! From what I hear, the wait to get into MIA is long, long, long. Ditto for LAX, unless you're something like '97 seniority. Don't know about Vegas, but I'd imagine the wait is long for there too. They MAY open up DEN again like they did last year.
In all honesty, as you know, the once mighty UAL is going through quite a bizarre period where it's impossible to predict what or when they'll do anything. Who knows? Not to sound pessimistic, but after you come aboard, I wouldn't be surprised if some kinda F/A hiring freeze will occur. (I doubt any furloughs will occur. But a hiring freeze, yes).
BTW, aside from the US Airways acquisition effort, I'm growing more concerned about UA's direction and UA management's strategy.
That is, if they even have one.

I whole heartedly agree with you. I am so surprised by managements confrontational attitude towars employees and the service cutbacks that its shoving in our passengers face. Its a remarkable considering Goodwin is a 30 year employee of UAL. I long for the days of Greenwald. I just want my fun job back.
As far as transfering to those bases I have noticed their arent many transfers going through at this time. ORD-DCA are the only bases recieving attention. MIA is asking for transfers, I hear alot of reserves are being deadheaded down their to cover trips.
SFO is super junior right now, LAX is getting senior by the day. These things ebb and flow, just sit tight, youll get to where you want to go.

Recently, LAX has taken a lot of transfers, very junior some, but it may close up again soon, who knows. Every once in a while, SFO clears the transfer list and takes new hires, but many of them eventually transfer out because it's so expensive to move there. But I'd think that if you wanted to be there, you'd eventually get it. DEN was closed when I first came on board, but it's opened since, but many of the junior f/a's there hate the flying. I haven't seen many transfers, very few actually, go to LAS recently, it's pretty much a closed base for now. MIA supposedly needs more f/a's, but the transfer list is huge. I know of f/a's who have transferred to LHR, waited their two years, and when their visas ran out and they were forced to transfer, they got to go to MIA, and that process took less time than actually waiting on the MIA transfer list.

Last time I checked Nov 98 is holding a line & up to July 99 is getting MU I'm very jr @ SFO & have only had a MU in Feb. I want out of SFO. (waitng for JFK to reopen) you can have my spot in SFO. What I don't understand is why it takes so long for a base to put thru transfers I have friends in DEN that want to come to SFO. Why can't the company just go by seniorty & trade 1 for 1 @ each base ie the first 15 from DEN & SFO just transfer that each base still has the same # of FA's & the FA's are happy. I know it's to easy for things to work that way. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

[ "Hey, how long does it take to at least hold bases like LAX, SFO," Whatever you do, don't try to hold SFO. It's getting worse and worse for outrageous prices in almost everything. All of the UA employees who could, sold their houses on the Peninsula and in the East Bay, banked the dollars and moved to places like IND/DFW etc, as commuters. In a once very senior base (and a lot of fun) F/A newhires qualify for food stamps!

MIAMI is super senior now and probably will not open up unless the airport expands (including runways) and UA puts in more flights. I am under 5 years and number 510. 290 for SFO I think.

Mia actually isnt that senior at all.
95 seniority is holding a line. 96-97 can hold relief.
Remember they recieved new hires in 97-98. So anything can happen.
If the economy in Brazil improves look for the loads to increase. Then maybe there will be some movement. Brazil is the bell weather for the South American economy.
We used to fly 777 everywhere in South America. Now many routes have been downgraded to 767, 757. All this happened after the economy went caput in Brazil.
ORD started flying to B.A. and Sao Paolo, so alot of traffic was shifted to ORD. Theirs a new terminal being constructed for us, so maybe that will offer some hope. Who knows what this airline has in the cards right now.
