I was at the UAL web page and they have Onboard service supervisor positoin open in DEN LAX and SFO.
Is there any UAL f/a out there who could shed somemore light on this position for me, I am considering applying.
My biggest question is how do they look at someone who isnt a UAL f/a and the training involved etc. Please feel free to email me at addi375@msn.com.
Lookin forward to hearing fromsomone out there.

Aboi, The job of onboard service supervisor is one that involves working 22 days a month. My supervisor does 'support rides' or 'line checks' or whatever you choose to call them 9 days a month and works in the office the other days. He/she is in charge of a specific group of crew-mine has approx 130 in his group. They went through a slightly abbreviated flight attendant training (not quite as detailed about service) and had to pass the 2 week emergency procedures part as well. Regerdless of what people say about the job it seems to be a good way to move up the 'corporate ladder' if you so desire. While I am not thrilled with upper management at UA right now, they do like to promote from within.I have no idea the pay but your bennies would be similar to all employee groups regarding pass travel and insurance.

I had a very good relationship with my onboard supervisor while I was working. I'm now on furlough, but hoping to be back to work soon. Unfortunately many of my flying partners looked down on their supervisors because of various reasons. Whenever there is a flight that may be delayed the onboard supervisor usually comes down to the plane, but they are not much help. Instead of helping you board the passengers, greeting, or setting up items they are often following you around telling you that your flight is delayed (as if the flight crew doesn't know) haha. I've also heard gripes about supervisors not backing up flight crews when different incidents happen onboard or with passengers in general. There definately is a dividing wall between fa's and supervisors though.

Recently, the company was furloughing many supervisors across the system. So, just keep in mind that if you happen to be hired and such, then you could be furloughed just as quickly if things don't go well in the next year or so. That being said, management is not furloughed on a seniority basis, it is performance based.
Usually, you end up going through multiple interviews and tests to get hired. I believe the company requires you to have a bachelors degree. The pay is pretty good, but you also have to put up with a lot of b.s. on a daily basis. United likes to hire people with airline experience, but we have plenty of onboard supervisors who have come from the private sector as well with no airline experience.
Good luck, whatever you decide to do. United is a great company and the benefits we have are among the best in the industry. :smile_2:
