Hey fellow United Airlineons,

Now that pass travel has been made free, do you think that it is time to do away with the traditional paper pass system in favor of plastic credit card type cards for non-reving? I know Delta has this system of "Travel Cards."

The way that it works at Delta is that you go up to the gate for the flight that you have listed on, and they swipe your card into the computer. By doing that, they see your name, file number, date of hire and so on. If you are not on the list, you get added to it. Then, what we at United call a "Departure Managment Security Card" is printed out and given to you, where you then wait for your name to be called.

The advantages to this system is that one you never run out of passes. You carry the card with you in your wallet. Trees are saved, and its just a lot less complicated.

Someone told me that these travel cards are in the works. I've only heard that from one other person. Does anyone know if that it true? If not, what do you people think of having plastic cards instead of the paper pass?

Delayed, This plan was in the works about 5 years ago when we were sent our new travel cards with the black strip on the back. Eventually they were going to send our 'eligibles' these cards as well. I think this has been shelved with the other cost cutting.......

Yeah, I heard something about that. I wasnt sure if it was a rumor, or if it was fact, or if it was someone giving me B.S.

Hi Delayed.

At CAL we use paperless E-Tkt's. We have a new Employee Reservation System since 99 and the format has just been improved 2 days ago. Basically you make your own res, your own PNR's for you and all your elegible dependents and Buddies. Delete and add segments etc, check capacity, authorization, boarding totals and the famous non rev list with its respective seniority. Paperless has worked for us even though the transition was and still is a little bumpy for some of our employees not used to the system. You can use a phone or computer. Unimatics has not been changed in a couple of years and this would be a great benefit for UAL employees. It also helps keep costs down.
