Hi. I’m an AA F/A with a couple of questions about UAL F/As holiday pay.

As you probably know, we have a tentative agreement and one of the issues agreed on is holiday pay. This is the first time we have holiday pay written into our contract.

I’ve read highlights about it from both the APFA and AA.

The APFA describes it as…” Holiday pay shall be calculated as double the hourly base rate of pay”.

AA describes it as…” Holiday pay will be paid according to the formula used at United Airlines.

My question for you is---What formula does UAL use? Is it double your hourly base rate of pay?

Plus, our TA agrees to 3 holidays…Christmas day, New Years day, and Thanksgiving (But Thanksgiving won’t kick in until 2003, two more years). I have heard that UAL F/As receive holiday pay for 10 holidays. If that’s true, which holidays are covered?

Thanks.

Hi Welcome Aboard!

Your question as to ual's holiday pay is answered from my contract as this:

"In addition to all other compensation, a working flight attendant shall be paid at double her/his hourly rate of pay. The amount of holiday pay shall be calculated as follows:
Lineholder
Hourly rate of pay time the credited flighjt time for the id (trip), divided by the number of hours away from home flling within the holiday"
Example
a flight attendant making $20.00 per hour flies an id (trip) which produces 17 hours orf credited flight time and keeps the f/a awau from home (check in til check out) for 48 hours of which 24 hours falls on the holiday:
$340.00 divided by 48 hours away from home =
$7.08
$7.08x24hours on holidy =169.92
holiday pay =169.92

so as you can see it's how long your gone over the 24 hour period of the holiday and how much flying time you're doing, too.

It's true we get paid for 10 holidays-they differ from which base you're at but north american bases get

New years day
presidents day
easter
memorial day
independance day
labor day
thanksgiving day
and the following day
christmas day
and the f/as birthday

It gives those who want it the exra $.
And those who want the time off-the time off. sometmes its hard for me with 10+ years to work a holiday!

Please forgive all the typos-no time to correct them.
We wish you the best of luck with your TA. It will only help us a ual in the future!
