Hey everybody,
I wanted to thank everyone who showed up for our benefit on October 18th, and to those who sent in donations by mail. But first let me apologize for taking so long to do so. All of my roommates were laid-off so I’ve had to move. In addition, I’ve just been pushed back onto reserve. So life’s been kind of crazy lately.
Anyway, the event was a huge success! Lots of flight attendants showed up and had a great time. Also, tons of police and firemen were there. We were supported in great numbers by the NYPD, FDNY, Chicago Fire Department, and the Los Angeles Fire Department. Plus, many local New Yorkers were there. Everyone had a blast and the bar became so packed that we had to rope off the sidewalk and let people spill out into the street.
Individual donations are still trickling in, but at the event itself we were able to raise over $10,000 to donate to the families of our fallen coworkers. A check for $5,250 has already been sent to the Wings foundation to be dispersed amongst the families of those F/A’s lost on American flights 11 and 77. And an identical check was mailed to the Cause foundation for the cabin crews of United flights 175 and 93. Any further money will be equally divided and sent out.
This was a grass-roots effort and I’m so proud of everyone who attended, worked the event, and donated raffle prizes. And I’m especially proud of my best friend, AA F/A Georgina Renaudo, who came up with the idea and followed it through. The day after the event, Georgie (as she’s affectionately known by her friends) was escorted in full AA uniform, onto the site of the World Trade Center. She left flowers and a note atop the rubble. The note thanked the flight attendants for their heroism and told them how many people had come to honor them the night before.
I will compile a list of our sponsors and post it here soon.
Anyway, thanks everyone and you can feel good to know that we made a small contribution to help our colleagues.
