AFA told the CEO to take a hike when he asked FA's to take concessions. I am sorry but I do NOT AGREE with AFA. When our FA's were furloughed involuntarily, AFA was not there paying "OUR" bills. We were left in the cold. NOW AFA is jumping and saying no pay concessions. I am sorry but I am "AGREE" to a pay concession. I am willing to give up around 5% of pay to GUARANTEE that I will have a JOB 2 years down the line. AFA is full of shit. When your company is in trouble and nedds HELP, I am sorry but you HELP. Think about the fact , if there is NO COMPANY then what happens to all of US. I would rather take a pay cut and get at least something steady everymonth then no check at all while looking for a JOB in this JOB SCARCE MARKET. AFA needs to GROW UP and so do the "SENIOR" crews at UAL. Funny how SENIOR crews are on "A" scale and cry about cuts when crews on "B" scale are getting paid far leass and willing to take a pay cut and sacifice for the company to ensure a pay check each month.Anywho. Kind of agree with you but only if we see MAJOR pay cuts for management and major reduction in management staff. Don't know about you but my supervisor is no help whatsoever and as for boarding / gate / briefing supervisors - ha

Unfortunately, there is very little that AFA can give back to UAL that makes any difference. UAL's costs as per Q4 2001 are detailed below.
http://www.ealbums.com/members/mendis/act2819.JPG
Of this, the AFA salaries, taken cumulatively, comprise just under 4% of the total cost expenditure to UAL (9% of labor expense), even though AFA members make up 21% of UAL's workforce.

Simply put, if every AFA member gave up 5% of their salary for a month, UAL could MAYBE run ONE SINGLE extra section to Tokyo and back.

So, what are you saying. Everyone else should give into concessions, and the AFA should not?
Please, find another shoulder to cry on. I think I will print out the graph, and then when United is toast I can sit around and think" Yes, but the AFA's contribution wouldn't have helped at all."
Give me a break.

Please do not accept a pau cut!!!!!
If united's F/A's take a pay cut it will affect all the other airlines F/A's pay as well. US Airways would probably be next, Delta's managment would not give any pay raises to there F/A's and would point out that united's unionized F/A make much less than delta's, so why get a union? American would eaither ask for conssessions now or during our next round of negotiations. AFA did not create this problem it all started with United's pilots which got huge pay raises ( how much did united's F/A's get 0% ). They are the ones who need to also take huge pay cuts!!!! United still has plenty of cash 3 billion. Don't give up anything!
NO CONCESSIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't give it up! Fight for what you believe in! I can say this, no AA flight attendant will agree to concessions, not now and not in the next round!! We all have worked way to long and hard to get to what we have now! Management, should take the paycuts! They bring home more money in 1 year then any of us flight attendants will see in our lifetime!

Agent : Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. From a financial standpoint, the AFA contract is not harming the airline for costs, so why make cuts where you don't need them?
Dunn : In all fairness, UA Flight Attendants didn't get a raise when the pilots did because their contract wasn't up for renegotiation. Unfortunately, the pilot contract pushed the proportion of costs that the pilot wages composed up to 8.52% in Q4 2001 from 5.87% in Q4 1999, while the productivity did not change appreciably much to deal with that structure. That is why the pilots probably need to take a larger cut than any other workgroup if UA is to be made feasible.

HUSTLER : AA doesn't need concessions, but if their operational situation was as dire as UA's is and if it could be shown that APFA concessions would help, I have no doubt that APFA would do the needful and renegotiate. But this is irrelevant. The point remains that AFA is not the problem at UA, hence AFA cannot provide the solution through givebacks.

Keep in mind that UA's current cash burn rate is around $5 million a day. If the AFA accepts concessions, it would basically save the company about one or two days of cash burn. Not quite a dent is it?
Basically, B747-437B's graphics & explanation helps show this. (thanks for that B747).

Nonetheless, this is the result when you have a severely incompetent CEO who decided to gave away the ENTIRE bank when the pilots only asked for a few pieces of furniture. Yet, Jimmy was quoted as saying he has "no regrets." (Well, I guess he wouldn't with all the gazillions in golden parachute money he has for ROYALLY f@#%ng up our once great airline).
Gee, I totally went off on a tanget. Sorry.
