If you ever wonder why foreign (asian specially) carriers have lots of crew on one flight is because their salary is really small. For example, I asked a Garuda Indonesia's FA of 12 yrs, she only makes approx. USD250/month. However, their expenses at layover are covered by the company (i.e. laundry, meals, and transportation). Also their company provides transportation to/from their houses/apts. So that way the company can lower their overhead expenses by paying little salary and be able to provide good number of FAs in each flight. I believe she said they are always fully staffed no matter the flight is full or not. On DC-10, they have 12 crew members working...and that's a lot!!!

At NWA? we'd be lucky to see our #8 on board the aircraft!

As little as 4 on a B767 and 8 on a B777!? images/icons/shocked.gif
Really? images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/frown.gif
I've never worked on a B777 with 8 its usually 10 and 12 or even 15 if we're lucky.
But the rest is OK, 3 on a 727/737, 4 on a 757 and 7 on a DC-10.
Still in shock, with the 4 and 8! Wow!

Full Crew Complement is as Follows Full Crew
This is MAX number we have on planes
B727 5
B737 3
B747 17
B757 6
B767 (767-200 8) (767-300 9)
B777 14
A319 3
A320 4

Ual is pretty good about staffing based on loads but during an illegal crew WALK OUT, they have to re-crew so it will be almost always at minimum. I worked a Sydney re-crew with 9 Cabin Crew. I was junpseating so I asked to work or flight would cancel. I was lucky. They said yes and I worked Purser in my Formail Wear (no uniform) Or if we have end of the month reserve shortage then flights will go out with minimums. Overall UAL give a good staffing of crew. images/icons/wink.gif images/icons/wink.gif

Speaking of understaffing...

Wasnt it in December when UA ran out of reserves about 2/3s into the month? I seem to remember hearing about that. Flights to HKG out of SFO left with 9 crew members, and the flight attendants were laughing all of the way to the bank. images/icons/wink.gif Needless to say, in January many furloughs came back.

Yeap. It was in the first week of December SFOSW ran out of reserves. I did a Shanghai with 11 followed by Sydney (story I shared above) as a jumpseater with 9 and then Narita as puser again with 10 on the B777. Rest assured I got my self out of debt. I was really LAUGHING. But having to work those trips is a B***H. Oh my GOD. WOW especially Shanghai with no Language qualified FA. Thats what I call Satanic flight in Jetboy's reference. Mind you I was DOMESTIC reserve in december. HEHEHE Happy Landings images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif

Intersting to see the number of crews you have on your aircraft.
I was wondering because at bmi
Airbus A320 - 5 cabin crew
Airbus A321 - 6 cabin crew
And at bmibaby
Boeing 737 - 3 cabin crew
