United Airlines said on Tuesday it struck a deal with SN Brussels Airlines that will give the new Belgian airline access to the U.S. market. United said it will accept routes served by SN Brussels on its tickets bound for European and African destinations.

The so called unilateral interline agreement would allow SN Brussels to charge its part of the ticket (for example the Brussels-Kinshasa leg on a Washington-Brussels-Kinshasa route) to United. SN Brussels will benefit because United will market the Europe-to-Africa portion of the ticket to US travellers.

United hopes to broaden the deal to a bilateral agreement to include US destinations which would allow United Airlines to attract US bound passengers from Africa via Brussels, Bernard Guissets, United's Brussels sales manager said. The deal is expected to be officially announced in the next few days.
