Can anyone tell me about the new airline starting up in Canada called jetsGO.
Are they hiring?
What kind of airline are they?
Where will they be flying?
What type of aircraft do they fly?
Are they associated with any Canadian airlines?

Thank You

easy737...
they are going to be using MD-80s flying domestic routes here in the Dominion. Discount airline op. taking on AC Tango etc. Likelihood of success is doubtful and I heard - rumour of course - they are asking for $30,000Cdn training bonds for flight deck...

Yes they asked for a 30,000$ investment by flight deck crews, they will have 3 MD-83 with a 160 pax configuration. Their routes will include YUL-YYZ, YYZ-YWG-YVR, YUL-YHZ, YYZ-YHZ. They plan to add more routes and aircrafts next autumn. Possibly some transborders to northeastern american cities. Check out their website www.jetsgo.net (http://www.jetsgo.net)
I would also point out that it is launched by former Royal CEO Michel Leblanc.
There is also the Canjet comeback, based in YHZ, they will used B732 and fly basically the same routes as Jetsgo.

I think that they are up and running ... all that I know is that they have acquired 3, to expand to 5 former American Airlines MD - 80 family aircraft.
And CanJet start flying on June 20th.

I don't know alitalia, maybe they are advertising, but I am going to the Vieux-port today to hear those engines too!!! I just love the F1 week-end in Montreal!!! Didn't get a ticket, so I will rollerblade to Vieux-Port and then party all day!!!!!! And it is a gorgeous day out there too, sunny and hot!

Ya I agree with you! Nothing beats the Grand prix and the Grand Prix weekend. I went last year for the first time and fell in love with the F1. I think everyone should experience the noise those cars make! images/icons/smile.gif

p.s. If anyone was at the Montreal Grand-Prix last year or saw it on t.v. and noticed a bunch of people in the Grandstand (near the hairpin)with red wigs I was somewhere in there images/icons/grin.gif

JETSGO LATEST CANADIAN CARRIER

Canadian airline industry veteran Michel Leblanc said on Tuesday his new discount carrier Jetsgo will take flight on June 12, becoming the latest player to take on market leader Air Canada.

Jetsgo will launch with just three planes, offering low-fare, no-frills daily service between Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Weekly flights to Stephenville, Newfoundland, and Sydney, Nova Scotia, will also be available in the summer months.

Leblanc said the service will be similar to Southwest Airlines, whose low-cost model has been been widely emulated.

Jetsgo will not issue paper tickets and passengers will have to pay extra for food and beverages.

By starting small and keeping costs low, Leblanc is hoping to escape the fate of former Air Canada rivals such as Canada 3000, which went bankrupt last year amid intense competition and the impact of the Sept. 11 attacks.

"We have a cost structure to be effective, profitable, competition," Leblanc told reporters at the airline's launch in Toronto. "We're forecasting to fly over half a million passengers for the the first year, with a projection of annual revenue around C$100 million ($65.3 million)."

Jetsgo will operate three 160-seat Boeing MD-83s and a fourth and fifth plane will be delivered in the fall. Leblanc said the airline will use the same make of plane throughout to keep maintenance costs low.

Leblanc said Air Canada was not operating on a true low-cost model. Jetsgo's workforce of 200 is not unionized and will subcontract services such as baggage handling.

"Customers want a true discount airline, not the imagery of a discount airline - a true discount airline that offers day in, day out low fares competitive with the buses, with the trains, and with your cars," he said.

The Jetsgo president said he did not consider WestJet to be a competitor because Jetsgo is targeting eastern Canadian customers. But he said they could become rivals as both companies expand.

Thanx Sabena Bunny.
They are not hiring any more people for now, they are all trained and ready to go.
Do we know what the 'plane sor uniforms look like, and, if their planes are in the air yet?

I can't find any pictures of the new airline at www.airliners.net (http://www.airliners.net) and they are usually very good for pix.
Does anyone know what the uniforms are like?

I flew JetsGo this weekend on YYZ-YVR-YYZ and both flights ran late by about 30-45 minutes. Service was friendly but spartan, with charges for everything from coke ($1) to sandwiches ($4). The ex-Korean Air MD83 was comfortable enough in a 160-seat one class configuration, but only 2 lavs on board left lines for the facilities during the 5hr flight. The Flight Attendants were supposed to be completely bilingual, but seemed to have more than a few problems with English speaking passengers. I switched to French with them after a couple of blank stares and "pardon?". The crew pattern was a horrendous YYZ-YVR-YYZ turn with a YYZ-YUL deadhead at the end. Uniforms were black trousers/skirts with dark green shirts, a JetsGo scarf in green/black and a black leather jacket with a green JetsGo button. Very smart looking.

Yes i saw a crew yesturday in YYZ, very nice looking uniform and they have a leather jacket! I saw it was a Danier. Very casual but with a classier look than westjet.
