Hi,

We at Air Canada are presently into contract negotiations with the Company. One of the major issue this year is that the Company want to hand-pick the In-Charge Flight Attendants instead of using Seniority.

They stated in a recent Bulletin that the In-Charges in all major airline but Air Canada are hand-picked by merit by the management. Presently, to become a Purser with Air Canada, you just have to apply when there is positions open ad attribution goes with pure seniority.

How does it work in your airline??? Thank you very much.

That is exactly how it works at TS. We do not have two seniority lists though. That means that if you apply and get the position and the following year more senior F/As apply then they have a better seniority as a flight director than you.
But if there are layoffs and cannot get an F/D position but have the senirity to hold an F/A position than you become an F/A for the time of your layoff.

At Skyservice CSM's are chossen by interview not seniority. It works well for us, maybe cause we never had it the other way, but i think that some F/A's that wish to be CSM's arent ready when they think they are, and I think that some people are just not cut out for the postion.

I think it should be done by merit just because
someone is senior doesn't mean they are good
for the job.
