A new charter airline is announced. Interesting comments about YEG - the community that AC ignores.

"The community that Air Canada forgot-Edmonton" Give me a break. If there was business there you don't think that we would have exploited it by now, the way we have everywhere else. All summer, when there is business there, there is a direct flight to LHR. Edmonton seems to have this problem thinking that they need flights to everywhere all the time. If there was a demand, there would be flights. It's a fact here in Canada that the majority of the people live in a few major centers and it's profitable to serve those centers. If we want to talk about places that are ignored, what about all of Saskatchewan?

Although I agree with AC/IC that it is not profitable to have tons of flights out of smaller cities, i think the main point here was the startup of Canada West Airlines. If they think that there is money to make and that they can survive, then go for it! Good luck to them.
At Transat our coverage in Edmonton is one LGW and one FRA a week during the summer. During the winter we go to PVR, VRA, PUJ, POP, CUN, ZLO and AVI. All out of YEG.
I have a question though, are they going to get a long haul type of aircraft for their summer flights to Europe? Because the way I see it, a B757 does't have the sufficiant range to fly to Europe directly.
Good luck to them!

It's not frequencey, it's customer service and attitude.

Hey Albertan, what part of AirlineCrew don't you get? This is a forum for airline crew, hence the name. Do we go into your lawyer or businessmen or golf rooms? If you are so gungho on Westjet try taking them to go somewhere overseas, or to the U.S. Sure you can take them to Toronto but who really wants to stop in Regina, Winnipeg or Thunder Bay or somewhere else first everytime? That's why there is a choice of mainline carriers or second tier carriers for people like you. Next time you need to go somewhere not on Westjet's sched(like Hawaii or Phoenix as most Albertans do in the winter) you'll go back to good old A/C.

skycowboy Take a look at WestJet's latest print advertising if you think they aren't taking advantage of the attitude to which I referred. To whom do you think they're referring when they say "...the friendlier choice in Canadian air travel".
P.S. There are two non-stop flights YEG-YYZ daily on WestJet.
As for Phoenix, it's United Express for me.

Has anybody heard from Canada West yet? Does anybody know when they'll be hiring for Flight Attendants? Any info would be appreciated... images/icons/grin.gif

Howdi folks.
Regarding an earlier post, i believe that the 757 can do trans-atlantic flights.
Canada 3000 used to use the 757 on their thinner European routes from Canada, and, some UK charter airlines fly 757s to the US and Canada 1 stop or non-stop!

Yes they were using the 757, but not from Western Canada. We were using our 757 last year too, from Montreal and Toronto. From the west, flights are longer (8 or 9 hours), so the 757 cannot be used on those routes (yyc, yvr, yeg to Europe)
See ya!
