Heard about Aeroflot about one year ago, but nothing official, and they DO issue LOTS of official papers.
Nothing at all about SWISS http://www.smilies.nl/sad/nixweiss.gif

Swwis will join One World!
here is a litlle digest about what was published in French newspaper yesterday :

Upppsss , forgot to make an english digest ....
here it is :

1st of March, the new Swiss airline will take over from Swissair which went bankruptcy October 2nd,2001.

Build around Crossair which, before dissapearing itself too, took over 52 aircrafts and hired around 6 000 workers from Swissair, Swiss will link 126 destinations worldwide with 128 aircrafts. Decided to perform up-market service, the airline plan to carry 9.8 million passeneger this year.

Four days prior to launch, André Dosé, CEO of Swiss, just announced two major news : purchase of 13 Airbus A340-300 and a partnership with American Airlines.

First deliveries of new aircraft should start in June 2003.
Partnership concern Swiss' daily flights in between Zürich and seven US destinations (BOS, JFK and EWR, WAS, CHI, MIA and LAX) as well as links from ZRH on to European, African and Middle-East destinations. Opposite will apply on AA flights from NYC, DFW towards ZRH and regional US destinations.

Goal of the Swiss airline is, sooner or later, to join Oneworld which AMR is part of. But this joining wont be without serious problems with BA.

Swiss, owned 65.3% by private Swiss investors and 34.7 by Swiss Confederation and Cantons, aim for balance in the budget in 2003 for a turnover of 5 billions Swiss Francs after a loss of 1.1 billion for 3.2 billions turnover this year.

whilst it is not Swiss (now oneworld) or Aeroflot (a confirmed future partnr that according to a report a few monts ago will join in 2003/2004)
TAM Brasil may join Skyteam according to a LHR-based friend from VARIG brasil. according to i think Airliners or Airliner World magazine that did a report on them in 2000, they are looking at all major alliances and there are rumours they are wanting to join Skyteam. is this true?
also China Southern or another Chinese operator wants to join SkyTeam?
keep safe and keep flying the friendly skies ... of Delta!

TAM is actually just having a good commercial cooperation with AF, and some codeshare.
Skyteam is already having a member in Central America in the name of Aeromexico, and there are actually no will to get a South American one in.
Regarding Aeroflot, a cooperation is actually studied by AF and SU but talks are on their way and it is not yet plan for SU to join Skyteam.
Actual member of Skyteam in former Eastern Europe is CSA.
Hope this will help you.
I will advise if news of Skyteam development on the way, regarding the info I may get.

Regarding a chinese airline entering Skyteam, also no news from here. Asian partner and member of Skyteam is actually KE ( Korean Air).

Actually we are working on strengthening Skyteam, trying to settle synergies.

Last point was the US DoT that gave anti-trust immunity to AF, OK, AZ and DL on Europe-US market, last January.
