View Full Version : DL and HP merger rumors...
Lots of rumors floating around again about Delta merging with America West. I highly doubt this will happen. When Delta bought Western, they became the biggest carrier in LAX. Then they dropped all the routes except for a few. The aircraft fleets aren't compatible, Delta an all Boeing fleet and America West, has Airbus and Boeing. The 757's at America West have RR engines and Delta's don't. The A319 and A320's can be sold to United or US Airways if needed. Why would Delta want to compete with WN in PHX or LAS anyway? They can't compete with the fairs, unless they bring Delta Express to the West Coast. If they do it, Delta will do the same as they did with Western.

like milehigh had sid the fleets are not compatible. but DL could do what i think AA did with TWA, take the staff, slots and the gates but sell the aircraft (Airbus) and bring in DL's Boeings.
would DL want a base at PHX though?
DL would have to bring Delta Express out to the westcoast to compete with SWA! I don't know if they can or not. US Airways had a clause about MetroJet, coming out past the Mississippi River. I wonder if Delta has the same clause? I heard today it's almost a done deal.

Fred Reid, President of DAL comments on the DL-HP rumors.
"That (rumor) didn't come out of left field, it came from outside the stadium. We have no idea where that came from."
