Hi,

We at Air Canada are presently into contract negotiations with the Company. One of the major issue this year is that the Company want to hand-pick the In-Charge Flight Attendants instead of using Seniority.

They stated in a recent Bulletin that the In-Charges in all major airline but Air Canada are hand-picked by merit by the management. Presently, to become a Purser with Air Canada, you just have to apply when there is positions open ad attribution goes with pure seniority.

How does it work in your airline??? Does it goes by Seniority or Pursers are hand-selected by merit by the management??? Thank you very much.

At Delta the Onboard Leader (OBL) is allowed into the program by going through an interview process so it is not really seniority driven..They also look at your work record, and educational experience..The only part where seniority plays a role is in International OBL slots...If you do not have a lot of seniority and someone senior to you wants in to the program then you are subject to being bumped out of the International OBL slot...

it used to be by merit in my airline, but you know you it worked out....you had to be the friend of this etc....so now everything works on seniority, to be purser you have to have at least 12 years of seniority
