Boeing today delivered to Alitalia the first of six Boeing 777-200ER (extended-range) jetliners that the Italian carrier plans to use for nonstop flights to the United States, Canada, South America and Asia.
After a short cerimony the first B772 left Seattle for a non stop flight to Rome FCO where it land tomorrow morning.
Alitalia also has options for six 777-300s
The Alitalia 777, with 291 seats in two class (42 Magnifica and 249 Economy), will fly next months for training flights mainly on domestic routes FCO-MXP and FCO-PMO.
A positive news for Alitalia comes from the financial data. Thanks to the great August performance they will expect to close the financial year with a small pre tax profit.
Saw some pix of the plane and it looks very nice!

The first 777 baby will be in UK for the next 3 months in order to provide them with the JAR-required Crew Rests. I wonder why AZ didn't ask Boeing to do the job???

wrong answer, sorry.
it's because Alitalia wanted overhead crew rest areas, nobody has asked them before and Boeing is not offering such facilities...

It's a shame aza! Lower crew rests are less noisy than the overhead...tried both. But I imagine this has been done for cargo problems. In fact the LCR take some space from the cargo hold.

probably but they're still better than trying to sleep in the middle of the cabin among passengers...

yes, that's the reason.

If that's the option then you're right, I'd definitely take the overhead

You should post on the Forum of the company that will operate your flight since not all the 777 are alike.

Too bad they have almost no money left... They won't be flying them for long...
