Korean Air (KAL) has reported a strong rise in passenger traffic for September but only marginal growth in cargo traffic was recorded.
The SkyTeam Alliance carrier says passenger traffic in terms of RPKs increased 11.9% in September over the same month last year, when the downturn that followed the US terrorist attacks began.
Passenger capacity in terms of ASKs increased 5.6% in September and passenger load factor improved 3.9 points, to 69%. The actual number of passengers carried in September increased 7.7% to 1.82 million.
Freight traffic grew at a smaller rate with FTKs increasing just 1.3% over September last year. That compares with year-on-year growth of 4.5% in August and this year’s high of 24.8% growth recorded in April.
Capacity in terms of ATKs increased 6.3% in September while the actual amount of freight carried increased 2.8%. Cargo load factor fell 3.6 points to 74.2%.
