Dear Doc:

I read in our airlines policy and procedure guide that some prescribed drugs are not ok for you to fly with. But it didn't say what.

I asked a supervisor, because I am on some drugs that I know the pilots can't take (I am a flight attendant) but I did not get a answer that seemed trustworthy.

Are there certain dr prescribed drugs that the FAA does not allow flight attendants to take?

Hi Kitten...

While I do not have a quick and easy answer to your question, here are a few links that may help you:

FAA Civil Aeromedical Institute - Over-The-Counter Medications (http://flysafe.faa.gov/Flysafe/Library/Airman%20Medical%20Info/OTC%20Medicine.htm)

First, you should discuss medications you may need with your physician. If he/she wants to put you on a drug, explain your work and inquire as to potential bad side effects.

Some drugs which are not approved for pilots are fine for flight attendants. The FAA does not publish a list of approved medications for pilots or flight attendants. You can view an unoffical list of acceptable FAA medications at: http://www.leftseat.com/medcat1.htm

Your airline medical Director may have specific requirements for you, so give him/her a call.
