hi guys!
i used to work for virgin atlantic and used to jet to different time zones all the time.
i tended to stay up until the local time of about ten in the evening before retiring to sleep.
but came back from america and felt absolutely shattered and i wasn't serving i was relaxing in Y.
i'm back on short and long hauls with jmc next week. what do you do to overcome jetlag?

Sleep all the way - NO alcoohol for 8h before or after, eat 4-6h before takeoff, oh yes and Never take sleeping or Pep pills.
But I'm SLF, and go E-W or W-E only 3-4 times a month, so it might not work for you so well!!!

I agree with gofer, sleeeeep, and no bozze, what works for me is to avoid heavy meals and foods, ie.. Steak, Pasta, Rice, they are harder to digest, and it might make you feel very tired images/icons/frown.gif But again we are all different, what might work for me may not work for you, but give it a shoot, you never know images/icons/smile.gif

Just fyi, meals high in carbohydrates tend to make you sleepy, meals high in protein make staying awake alot easier.
Now Jetboy, I know EXACTLY what you are thinking of now...

When you cross the time-zones, stay awake until the time you would usually go to sleep in the United Kingdom.
Don't drink alcohol, mainly drink water and things with caffeine.
Eat things with lots of protein and little carbohydrates as nixe said.
Well if this is any good to you ... images/icons/grin.gif

I started flying internationally a couple of years ago (after 8 yrs of domestic), and had a horrible time with jet-lag the first few months. After each trip, I would be awake for two days and then sleep for 18 hours. I was telling a friend of mine, who is a Pediatrician, how miserable I was and he said, "You have to start working out. You have to work out before you leave, you have to work out on your layover and you have to work out when you get back." So, on my next trip, I took his advice and it totally righted my clock!
This is the routine that works best for me: sleep in the day the trip starts and wake up with enough time to do at least 30 min of cardio before getting ready; upon arrival the next morning, I sleep for 3 to 5 hours, then go straight to the hotel gym for another 30 min of cardio, and have plenty of time afterward for sight seeing or meeting up with the crew; when we get back to EWR, I force myself to do yet another 30 min of cardio. It isn't easy to make yourself do it, especially if you dislike working out as much as I do, but I promise it will make all the difference! Not only do I not get jet-lag, I have more energy when I want it and I'm able so sleep when I need it!

That's really good advice, TX_flygirl. I'm going to be doing a lot of walking, hiking, and climbing while I'm in Greece, which I'm in the process of traveling to.
And welcome to the board! :smile_2:
