I recently saw a press release from US AIRWAYS, and it stated that there will be more transatlantic flights. I think that is good news. It is about time there will be more flights added. Other airlines found it necessary to add flights.

qcq, did you guys ever start BRU? If you did are they using the A330 http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/aircraft2/a330-200.gif or the B767-200 http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/aircraft2/767200.gif?

The airline dicontinued flights to BRU as of February 1. I don't exactly know when that flight will be added back to the timetable. Hopefully it will be added back. I know that the airline is adding flights to other European cities such as Paris and London.
On most of the routes, the A330 is used. That is our largest aircraft in the fleet.

Hi Quickcallqueen, I was just wondering what a typical trip is for you (how many legs, where do you layover, aircraft etc.), I'm wondering because I'm from South Jersey and I almost always fly US Airways from PHL. Also, who does the flying from PHL to Europe (flight crews from what base)? Thanks

PHL crews fly transatlantic flights out of PHL for the most part.

Typically 737 consist of several legs a day. Lately, more of the 757 trips are that way too. I really like the airbus trips because I like to try to get to the west coast and caribbean islands as much as I can . I like those layovers.
I much prefer to do west coast transcon flights because you work one leg, get a long layover and then fly back. I would rather do that than 5 legs a day on a 737 here on the east coast with those short haul flights.

I am not too sure about flights to Latin American nations. I have not heard anything official about Portland,Or, San Antonio,Tx, and etc. But hopefully they are going to be added. I am glad to see that we added flights in transatlantic. Hopefully in the very near future flights are added to domestic since other airlines have found it necessary to add flights due to "increased demand". People are actually flying, believe it or not.

Brussels was a short lived service operated with 767-200 aircraft. It has been discontinued. The service to Austin, San Antonio and Portland has been cancelled indefinitely. When we were USAir, we used to service AUS and SAT and I believe PDX but over the years pulled out of those cities. With the current climate at US Airways I wouldn't expect to see too many cities added or brought back, although we have been adding Caribbean flights on a pretty consistent basis.

Im no business man here, but dont you guys think we need to give this thing our best shot. Ive always been one for progress and it really bugs me to see the other majors adding flights and we seem to be taking our time with it. I dont know, the whole bwi closing was dumb i thought and not adding san antonio, austin and portland is just as dumb to me. Hopefully the new guy will come in and really be pro-active. God knows we need it.

It is a step in the right direction in regards to adding transatlantic flights. Hopefully, we will see domestic flights added soon. It would be the logical thing to do.
Recently, the DOT ruled that Washington National(DCA) can resume operations by 100% in regards to the amount of flights that are allowed to go to and from there. Hopefully, USAIRWAYS adds more flights there and other places, too.

I agree with skyybutter. We should make a move before it's too late. We don't want to over-expand, but we've got to make a place for ourselves long term. Some people in our own country don't even know who we are. I wish mgmt would decide who we are competing against. It seems different every month. At least AirTran has started to retreat from traditional US Airways turf. That's quite a switch from what we're used to, being the ones that lately are pulling out of markets.

JetStewUS,
I agree with your argument. It is true that in the west coast, not many people here have heard of US AIRWAYS. We had a good amount of name recognition here on the east coast.

Yes, USAir was big on the westcoast back in the day. When they bought PSA- Pacific Southwest Airlines, it gave them a huge westcoast presence. Crew Bases were in SAN, LAX and SFO and US Air was a name to be taken seriously on the west. The name, paint job, route structure and strategy have been changed. You have Wolfe now!! Need I say more??

Question, why are we displacing people when we have so many people furloughed. Why not call some people back before may 1st. Maybe I dont understand whats going on, if not help me out guys.

I agree that it was really illogical to pull the plug on PSA. PSA had a large presence on the west coast, and of course the name recogniton. They had west coast flight crew bases. Many the flight attendants and pilots who are still with the company are commutting from the west coast .

Skyybutter- They don't need to bring people back if they already have so many that they have to displace them.

BRU was just not profitable. Pax loads were always very light and hardly any cargo loads. I've heard that we may plan to fly to Zurich, Athens, Milan and Vienna... but you know how rumours are! images/icons/rolleyes.gif
