There will be NO further voluntary furloughs offered. The company is understaffed for May, overstaffed for June and understaffed again for July, August and September. They are FORECASTING possibly recalling some involuntarily furloughed flight attendants for the summer.

Base displacements announced earlier and then cancelled appear to be back on. In May, the company will displace 222 flight attendants from Pittsburgh, Charlotte and Washington, D.C. Check the US Airways AFA website and/or e-line for the latest.

OPINION: While it's a good sign that people may be brought back for summer, I hope it's not just to cover the senior f/a's summer vacations. We are still closing Baltimore and shrinking Boston as of June 1st, in conjunction with the return of approx. 340 flight attendants from VOLUNTARY furlough status. We are still parking all of our MD-80's and F100's by the end of next month. I want everyone back to flying ASAP, but hope it's permanent and not more of a see-saw. Sorry for those of you who will be displaced after all. Good luck to everyone.

I hope the announcements today are only the beginning of good things with the company. I really think we will make it through all of this, but like I said on another topic, I wish we werent so slow with it. I read a column today that said we are burning through about 20 million every day. We gotta get those business travelers back.

I understand that it is a wait and see situation just like a lot of things. Hopefully, those flight attendants that were involuntarily furloughed will be getting recalled soon. The possibility may exist that recall notices will be sent out in April.
The company stated that they will not offer another round of voluntary leaves. With their projections, they have concluded that they will be understaffed in May,July, August, and September. This is according to the eline update from the AFAUSAIRWAYS website.
This is really some good news for those involuntarily furloughed flight attendants, I know that plenty of them will look forward to coming back to work.

I agree that more has to be done in regards to getting more business travellers. When the economy is good, business travel goes up. The airlines benefit from this.Every time there is a decline in the economy such as a recession then business travel also declines.
Obviously, the airlines have attracted a lot of leisure travellers with cheap tickets. We can all come to the conclusion that plenty of the airlines are postinglosses because they are literally giving away tickets. But of course they fill up the flights.
I know other airlines were quick to add flights and recall laid off employees because they found it necessary to add flights and needed more employees to deliver that service. It just seems that we played second fiddle to everyone else. We got a new CEO and hopefully better days are coming soon.

About the business travellers. I don't quite know if US AIRWAYS is going to think of something really fast. I read yesterday that America West is cutting business fares.

If there is any hope for those involuntarily furloughed, hopefully, there will be some recall notices going out for July. I know that it is getting down to the wire for May, and it didn't happen yet. Hopefully, we will see f/as' recalled for July.

I am making an educated guess here. I think why the involuntarily furloughed flight attendants did not get recalled for May is because of displacements and vacation buy backs. June, you have the closure of BWI as a domicle and those who are returning from the 6 month voluntary leave. Hopefully, when the dust settles, that could mean recalls, hopefully for July. I would like to see it happen. I understand that people are getting shuffled around and of course, it has been a roller coaster ride for everyone out there.
