The question has been asked, and I even thought about talking about it while we were in SFO.
Where do we meet next?
I want to remind you that anyone can set up meetings and gatherings. They don't have to be as big or complex as this one in SFO was.
And I'll be happy to share experiences and lessons about putting these together, now having done two of them (one was for FlyerTalk in DFW around this time last year).
It seems, however, that everyone feels comfortable with me at the helm of our major gatherings. So, I will continue to plan them.
I'm going to relax for a while, enjoy my next vacation in a month, and think about this in more detail. I have come up with some thoughts on how I want to do this:
1. We can set up one meeting in the spring (March/April) and one at the end of the summer (September), since most cities in the world we would want to meet in have good weather at those times.
We would probably have to adjust this by a month or two for those that don't (ex. DFW is much better in mid-to-late September or early October, because of the heat).
The summer meeting will more than likely be the meeting where the "awards" are handed out, although we could do that on a smaller scale in the spring.
Many of the awards in the same categories, and a few new ones, will be presented. Definitely, the "Anaconda Award" will be presented at the summer meeting. We could have some different categories in the spring.
2. I'm going to partially base where I want to have the meetings on where I want to go, and partially on where the most people have an opportunity to go. It's no good if people will not have suitable routings into an area.
It's also going to be no good if I can't be there, so the dates are going to kind of fit where I can be most available, if it's okay with everyone.
With that, here's the list of possible future locations. Not a complete list, but you get an idea of what I'm thinking about. It's in no particular order, although, I'm leaning towards the first two or three, just as personal choices.
MIA (Miami, Florida, USA) - This group NEEDS to take over South Beach. A great party setting with all of the hotties and cuties around. images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/wink.gif
YYZ (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) - We definitely need a meeting in Canada, due to the large AC contingent on the board. Because of that, it could be the largest ever, in terms of attendance.
DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, USA) - I need to get you on my home turf, so I know we'd be dancing at the clubs at least one night. I could even try to get this cool band I'm friends with, Emerald City, to play a private party for us, if we all chipped in.
Maybe Bridget and I will even make Texans out of a few of you. I owe some square/line dancing time to several of you ladies. YEE-HA! images/icons/grin.gif
LHR (London, England, United Kingdom) - Another fairly large contingent of people are here. Jetstar's turf. images/icons/smile.gif
MUC (Munich, Germany) - We could see what the firetrucks look like in Chiemsee! We may even see a mermaid while we're there. images/icons/wink.gif
AMS (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) - Another large section of members here. This could be the stage for the wildest gathering ever, if we get enough people there. images/icons/grin.gif
NYC (New York City, New York, USA) - Maybe there could be another try at this city?
LAS (Las Vegas, Nevada, USA) - We could bring "The Bar - The Movie" to life! Except without the car chases and shootings, of course. Maybe dingducky, James Bond, jetstar, and the rest of the original cast will be there? images/icons/grin.gif
SYD/MEL (Sydney and Melbourne, Australia) - A perfect opportunity in the land "Down Under" with Feeton Terrifirma, in his element.
After I get back from vacation in October, I'll start getting some ideas ready for 2003, so everyone can get their schedules in order. images/icons/smile.gif
