The Star Alliance said South Korea's Asiana Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines and Spanair would become members in the next six to 12 months.
"Work will commence immediately on the integration of Asiana Airlines of South Korea, LOT Polish Airlines and Spanair of Spain into Star Alliance," the global network said in a statement. It said the airlines were expected to become members in the next six to 12 months.
The 14-member global airline network, led by United Airlines and German carrier Lufthansa, coordinates flight timetables, services and frequent flyer points for member airlines.
Other members of the Star Alliance, founded five years ago, are Air Canada, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Austrian Airlines, bmi british midland, Lauda Air, Mexicana Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways International, Tyrolean Airways and VARIG Brazilian Airlines
