Lufthansa has invested an additional 32 million euros ($30 million) in adding security measures on board its planes in recent weeks, the airline's chief executive said. Juergen Weber said at a press conference in Frankfurt the airline's whole fleet would be outfitted with video security systems so that trouble in the cabin and cockpit could be recognised quickly. Bullet-proof cockpit doors were also to be installed, he said.
The new measures would bring Lufthansa in line with US security regulations set to go into force by the spring of 2003, the company said in a statement. Within weeks of the September 11 hijack attacks on the United States, Lufthansa said it would assign sky marshals to its flights.
