As for your question, I'm afraid I can't really help you their as I don't now the internal policy at LH,but in general you schould count a "Kündingsfrist" of about one month(could be longer)

Ahhhhh... Sob.... Thanks Airbus, you're such a darling... almost giving me second thoughts here.... images/icons/smile.gif It sure is a tough decision, but I MUST do it. Well, let's say I'm not leaving forever; I'm always certain that I'll come back. Sucks about the seniority, but hey, mine wasn't that great anyways.
I'm going for teacher training (PGCE) in Britain; it takes only one year and then I'll be a qualified teacher for English and Drama in secondary schools! It seems I'm chronically attracted to underestimated jobs....
I'm soooo glad to hear about your invitation! You'll do GREAT!!!! Hey, let me know when it is - perhaps I'm around.

Hello everyone,
Sorry it took me a while to respond to this thread, but I have no idea what Kundigung means. What I do know is that today I found out from ChiemseeNixe that Katharina is leaving LH. So I came to this forum and did a little searching and lo and behold, "Kundigung!!"
Well Katharina, we didn't know each other for too long, but it was always great to read what you had to say. I would like to think that we have become better aquainted after what recently happened in galley gossip and I definately consider you to be a true friend. I think LH doesn't realize what they are losing. I wish I could understand what you wrote in your post, but it seems like you are leaving Sept 30th? And you are going to become a teacher and train in England? Whatever it is that you end up doing, I wish you the best of luck, and I am sure that your students will learn a lot from you.
Be sure to keep in touch with friends....Bye
Katharina

Hey Doc,
my leaving LH doesn't mean I'm leaving this forum! images/icons/grin.gif
And anyway, I'm almost sure that I'll miss flying too much and I'll be back as soon as I have my teaching diploma...

why don't you ask for a sabbatical leave. In Belgium we can ask for a long period of leave in order to finish studies or do some travelling. You get even a (small) amount of money from the state. That's how it works in Belgium images/icons/smile.gif

Lucky Belgians then... Doesn't work with Lufthansa, alas. Sure, you'd think your company would value your education and support it, but, nope, i's all your private fun, isn't it! images/icons/rolleyes.gif
Last autumn we could have got all the sabbatical we wanted, when they tried to get rid of as many people as possible without sacking anyone. Some people got up to three years. Now imagine that luxury - you could do an entire degree within three years, all the while keeping your ID travel privileges! But I would have had to do that as of January 1st 2002, and then I didn't want it. Now we're short of staff again, so it's hopeless...

I can't believe that LH was giving away sabbatical time (up to 3 years worth and with seniority intact?) and no one took it!!!! By no one I mean Katharina and Chiemseenixe. Gosh it would have been a great experience. If the opportunity ever presents itself again, please, please take it!!
As for not having your company pay for any educational upgrading don't even think twice about it. You are doing it for yourself, and I am sure that they have had experiences in the past with FAs who upgraded their education with company money and then left the company for better job offers. I am just happy to hear that you are going through with it anyways. I too want to go learn some new things once I get some time off. There is so much to learn out there!!! Can you get any government education grants or scholarships?
I still can't get over you two with the sabbatical leave. Both of you are young, carefree and can devout the rest of your lives to LH. There is so much else to do right now. I understand that for monetary reasons, or family or some other reasons, not everyone can just take off, so I do understand why you may not have taken the sabbatical. I just feel that it is so sad that now that you want the time, it isn't there. I wish you the best of luck in pursuing your educational goals.

By the way, did you hear that Tamme is back!! Can't wait to hear about his vacation.

YaleDoc, sorry, I don't agree I'm only doing this for myself. Well, maybe I in my case am, but generally further education (in ANY subject) WILL benefit my abilities as a flight attendant too. The (wonderful) thing is that our job is so versatile in its demands that NO experience, training or education is NOT useful. Even if it was Art History, it would broaden your horizon and make you an even more interesting personality.
I didn't take the sabbatical last autumn because I didn't need it then. My course only starts in autumn term this year, and I wanted to keep flying until then. Of course you're right it would have been a wonderful opportunity!

Hi Katharina,
I just want to wish you all the best off luck in your future studies and carreer.
I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to leave most off this behind for a dive in the onknown!
But I'm sure that you will do abolutely fine and that everything will work out fine.
I just hope that you can grant all of us one last wish and that is that you promisse to pop over now and then here at crewnet.
As you are also the person at crewnet who follows a little bit my efforts to join Lufthansa,I just want to mention that I took your advice and called them again, asking for some info. The aknowlidged that they are a little bit behind on schedule with the new applications but the woman on the phone said to me that it was a possitif thing that it's taking so much time.Whatever that means.
So,that's that.
Take care and PLEASE do not leave us here!
Where else would you get the latest news?
Big hug and the best of luck
