Europe's largest travel firm Preussag denied a magazine report that it was planning to launch a discount carrier with regional airline Germania.

German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel reported in its latest edition that the travel firm would hold a 20 per cent stake in the new carrier while Germania chief Hinrich Bischoff would hold an 80 per cent stake.

"The way the Spiegel has written that is wrong," a spokesman for Preussag said. He said the travel group, which plans to adopt the travel brand TUI as its name on Wednesday, was still looking into whether it would enter the no-frills airline market. "There have not been any decisions made," he said.

The spokesman said the group was always in talks with Germania, which is one of its current partners in holiday flights. Preussag has said it would consider either starting its own no- frills airline or buying an existing one.
