Due to cutbacks in flight schedules to Europe at Continental we are looking at 5 and 6 day trips over Christmas and New Years. Trying to decide between the cities mentioned in the subject title. Specifically looking for nordic skiing or snowshoe walking venues within day trip distance (by train or coach). Any suggestions? Thanks. I don't have to bid until 21 nov.

Well, none of these cities are Nordic, so won't help you with this BUT as for skiing the best is of course ZRH and MXP (which is MUCH cheaper!!!!). BUt as for Xmass and New Years Eve- CDG FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the most beautiful city in Europe for spending christmas or New Years Eve on Champs Ellisse!!!!!

Well I got the 6 day trip to ZRH for New Years. Although I love Zurich, I plan to make this a short winter holiday as I probably will not have another one this year. I made reservations at a hikers lodge in Interlaken the first night with plans to snowshoe or winter hike the Grindlewald/First area. The next night in cheap hotel in Bern (so I won't be all alone for New Years Eve). And the next day back to Bernese Oberland for more hiking and sightseeing. Does anyone have recommendations for the Schlithorn or Jungfraujoch. (Yes, I know its expensive, but when will I have another 6 day layover?). Also, any gay friendly pubs or clubs in Bern for New Years Eve? I doubt that any of my coworkers will want to leave the layover hotel area but I am going anyway. As a crew member I guess I will have to check in my showshoes and walking poles since we can't take them thru US airport security anymore. Has anyone ever checked luggage as a crewmember? I asked at work and they looked at me like I was from another planet. Thanks for any advice.

Well so far, I wont recommend CDG as far from places you're looking for, except that you can get high speed train (TGV) or commute on AF to the Alps mountains, GNB for instance.
MXP would be a better choice as at mountains feet. You can rent a car and be in the mountains within an hour drive.
As for the other cities you mentionned, I dont know them so well so cant help about.

Ooooooh - that sounds like a great layover ahead! If you're going all the way up to the Bernese Oberland, you should do at least one day of down-hill too, in my humble opinion! But Switzerland will be just ideal for any of those sports.
