Hi! Does anybody know a good way to get from JFK to LGA by public transport at night? I'll be arriving at JFK at 9 pm and flying out of LGA at 6:30 the next morning. The usual Airport connex shuttles don't seem to operate after 8 at night, and I really don't want to pay a taxi, at least not all the way! Can I get near LGA by subway - and then maybe take a bus or taxi from there? And what would be better: Sleep at JFK and then head over in the wee small hours of the morning - or head straight to LGA and sleep there?
I''ll have a sleeping bag, and I don't mind spending the night at the airport - as long as it's open overnight and half-way safe!
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Kat

HI Katharina. Although I do not know the schedules, I know you can take a bus from JFK to subway and then subway to another bus to LGA. Another option is airport bus to NY Port Authority and then another airport bus to LGA. Those should run late. Or you could store your luggage in locker at port authority and see NYC at night, then take early bus to LGA. Maybe that's an option if you are able to sleep on flight from Germany to JFK and be somewhat rested. I don't think its a good idea to sleep in NYC area airport, But I would chose JFK over LGA because its an international airport. Where are you going if I may ask? Did you know that Flight Attendants from all airlines get free unlimited jumpseats on Jetblue and their hub is JFK? If they serve your city, then talk to JETBLUEBRAD for his advice. Good luck.

Wow, that's an excellent tip about jetblue! Wish I'd known that earlier... Have you promoted that on the forum? I think many people would be excited to know!

Unfortunately I'm not an active flight attendant any more (don't ask me why I left - I DON'T REMEMBER!), so I guess even jetblue wouldn't give me a free jump just for good old times' sake :wink_2: Nope, I'm paying dear money for the privilege of a full booking (at least that saves my nerves) on UAL.

I'm going to Sandpoint, Idaho, to spend Christmas with my boyfriend's family. Snow, skiing and my sweetiel - I'm so looking forward to it! Flying from LGA to Spokane, Washington.

Do you think it's safe to go exploring NYC all by myself at night? Wouldn't mind doing it!

Katharina, The UA/BA terminal at JFK would not be the best place to overnight! The last flights out are by 11pm-it may only be open to ID carrying staff after that hour. The "international" terminal may be a different story. If you sleep the whole way to the US you could pull an all-nighter in Manhattan. The Christmas tree should be up- the skating rink near it is open late. There are several diners open all night in the city- great for people watching ! The only concern is where to store your luggage and the cost of getting into/out of the city. The crew working your UA flight should be JFK based- they would be the experts on getting around and to /from the airports in NYC. Enjoy your visit!

Now, there's an idea! I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks!
