Anyone know what became of Hef's famous DC-9, known as the Big Bunny? Oh... the stories I heard about that bird! Here's a pic, from the Playboy website...

Hmmmm... I'm not sure Studley. Everyone at the mansion (Hef included) called it the Big Bunny or just the Bunny. Perhaps it's referred to as the Bunny Jet on paper somewhere. Either way, I'm sure it's got the record for Mile High Club mileage!

I believe Hugh Hefner sold the plane in 1976 after he settled in Los Angeles. After Hugh Hefner sold his once-private jet the "Big Bunny," it was employed as part of the commercial fleet belonging to Air Mexico.
You see, I was a Playboy Bunny. (Want to buy a bridge??  )

Ah yes! Thanks skygirl! Now I remember... Once he bought the Playboy Mansion West in Holmby Hills he sold it. But between '76 and now there must be more to its history.

I recall posting that the jet was still in service for AeroMexico when I made it Studley's Logo Of The Week .

Another piece of info, Playmates could use one of the twelve fullsize beds available during long flights ;-) It was realized in 1976 that this was just a too much expensive glamour toy and the aircraft was sold to Aeropostal. It is still operating for AeroMexico.

Of course, leave it to Hef to take delivery of the jet in '69!
That makes four significant events in aviation/space history that year:
1. Man walks on the moon
2. First flight of Concorde
3. First flight of 747
4. First flight of The Bunny Jet

The former Big Bunny is now history.
She was retired on 31 August of this year, last flying for Aeromexico under the registration XA-JEB.
IMO, this bird should be refurbished to its original delivery specs and livery, and then donated to the National Air and Space Museum.
Or better yet, it should be donated to The Museum of Sex.  :wink_2:

Does anyone know what the tail number was while Hef had it?
Could it have been N169U?

It also had a shower in it - which was an extravagant thing back in the day...
